Mark Hoppus from Blink 182 plays a Jazz Bass

I think his bass is a custom p-bass with a jazz neck. He originally played a MusicMan and then switched over to standard p-basses before working with Fender to make his own version.

Squier has an excellent "special" p-bass that comes with a jazz neck and a jazz pickup. If you get it, change out the pickups and you'll have a really good bass for little $.

Jazz basses are pretty versatile. If you really want one, look up the Fender Taco version on Craigslist. You'll prob. find it for $300, like another user already mentioned.

are you trying to tell me that a Squier Vintage modified Jazz bass has a plywood body?
You better check again friend
FYI Squier is owned by Fender.
I will take a Squier VM Jazz over a mexican jazz any day of the week.

Squier aint what it used to be!!! Those VM Squier's are excellent. Also IMHO even better are the Squier Classic Vibe series instruments. Better than a mim Fender? Maybe, maybe not. At that price level it's a crap shoot. If you're a wood snob, the edge goes to the mim which are made of alder. The VM and Classic Vibe's are made of basswood, agathis, and soft maple. I really like alder but there's nothing wrong with any of those other woods. At the moment I have almost uncontrollable G.A.S for one of these.

You are correct Hoppus does play a modified p bass,

Also when looking at instruments in this price range the biggest problem is quality control, they make great cheap instruments, and then there are terrible cheap instruments, play any instrument in this price range before buying, this isn't something that you want to go to the store play, and then order off the internet, because it could be a completely different instrument in terms of quality.

That being said purchased a used MIM bass a couple years back for 125$ and was thrilled about it, made an excellent bass for playing live, and I played (i got tired of dragging my pedulla to less than ideal places), it didn't compare to my pedulla in terms of sound or playability, but it was a good backup, and just a overall fun bass
