I have an iRiver 512mb flash player and over the weekend I discovered a way cool use for it other than simply loading it up with music files: plug in your axe and practice a few songs, then sit back with the headphones on and listen! Two requirements to do this: 1. You have to have a player with an input for external recording (I don't think iPod's do, although I could be wrong), 2. You need to plug your guitar into an effects box and from that directly into your MP3 1/8" stereo input. The sound quality is awesome, especially for practicing and spur of the moment musical ideas, and is SO much more convenient than a tape deck.

Anyone else here tried this? I think it's really gonna make me play a lot more and improve my playing in a shorter time, plus the fact it's just plain fun.

I used mine for tracking band practices sometimes, ran the mixer tape out RCAs into a 1/8" stereo adapter directly into the MP3 player. It really is convenient.

That's an idea - I'm gonna do that with my Fostex MR-8 to the iRiver MP3 player, for instant mixdown/playback.

So what you're saying, it has a 1/8" line-in and can record as MP3 on the iRiver device. Cool.

Checked website, but they didn't mention any line-in.
Did mention about voice recording capabilty at 32mhz

The model IFP795 does have a 1/8" inch stereo input jack located right above the earphone jack and it does "Direct Encoding" to MP3. I'm lovin' it!
