What is your opinion of Jackson Guitars?? Good, Bad or indifferent. I would prefer to hear from folks that have one now or have had one in the past.

Thanks
Mike

I own and play a Jackson Dinky and love it. It's my main guitar, I customized it with DiMarzio pick ups and the guitar really ROCKS!!! The neck feels and plays great, the guitar is really well made and sounds spectacular. I also used to own a Jackson Rhoads EX which was OK... nothing special except for the cool Randy Rhoads look, but it wasn't really special; it was the japanese model, however the US made Jackson guitars are incredible instruments.

I have a Jackson 5 string bass - concert series or something. I think it's as nice or nicer than anything else I've played.

I'm primarily guitar (about 30 years) - but I do play other people's basses at church from time to time and my Jackson is must nicer than any of those (Yamaha, Dean, Fender) and I have played other basses as well over the years.

This was the second Jackson I ever played - The first was about five minutes before and wasn't set up right. Buzz real bad, etc. But the one sitting next to it was set up pretty much perfect - so I went with it.

I'm a believer is not worrying about the name on the guitar. More and more I find that if I just focus on the pickups, sound and playability I end up getting what I want. From a cost perspective, it's hard to have multiple guitars if I'm worried about getting a particular brand.

God bless!

I owned several in the 80's

I can't remember the exact models but both were strat style, one was a neck thru body with a preamp built in. Kahler whammy and Jackson pickups. That was the first guitar I ever bought off a rack and didn't have to do a thing too it. I bought a bolt on version similar to it because I liked the finish (some flourescent orange and black mess)

I can't speak for how they are now, but they were among the finest guitars built for my style of playing back then.

Rock on King !

Haven't played one in more than ten years but I used to play with someone who had one custom made. It was a soloist model, neck-thru body, pearl inlays, custom paint job, reverse headstock and all the goodies. It was a soloist alright; great for solos, great sustain but if you wanted to play a fat riff it sounded thin. Considering that he paid about 2 grand, it didn't sound all that great to me. This was back in the days when Jackson was big, nowadays they are more affordable which makes me think they're cutting corners somewhere, or maybe they were just overpriced to begin with.

I have a Jackson "Standard Pro", circa 95? Single cutaway, 3 picckup, two single coil, humbucker w/splitter, floyd rose, 24 fret, rosewood fingerboard, contoured body. Single volume control no tone controls, 5 way posistion ship. Super thin neck.
I prefer this guitar over my 1972 Gibson ES-335.
It is easier to play, it has the whammy which is essential to my style. It is more versatile and the humbucker has more punch.
I have replaced the 5 way swith though and am about to replace the volume pot. I did go inside and shield all the wiring.

I own a Jackson fusion xl (soloist body) its a mid 90's model... it plays/sounds great, nice craftsmanship, the locking Floyd Rose/Jackson tremelo never goes out of tune, even after major divebombing... mines a bolt on neck, sharkfin inlay, I think I paid about $750 for it 8 or 9 years ago....
Dont know how the new ones are though...

:)

I bought a DK2 last year. I wanted something a little more versitle than a strat in terms of lower frets, locking clamp and nut.

What a surprise! Pure pleasure rippin' on this solid body long-neck! No buzzing through the bridge or pickups. Pull strings down to your socks and this thing stays in tune.

Had to have it set up to bend an E without brushin' the neck pickup, but whoo-hoo! Greasy smooth down to the 24th of the bottom E to the top E's 1st fret. Solid tone everywhere in between. Good lookin' ta boot!

I have a 1986 Jackson Kelly (Neck through body / Kahler / EMGs / Lightning Graphics).
It's a great playing guitar, that also records very well.

I've just recently traded an effects unit, for a Jackson PS-2. It's a nice guitar as well.

Take care,
Tony

ive gott a 86 usa san dimas made jackson from the custom shop, it has the grid paint job on it with jackson floyd rose and active jackson humbucker, its a bolt on neck and its one killer guitar and plays and sounds awesome but im storing it for my daughter so its in good shape when shes old enough.

I was a Jackson/Charvel guitar tech 95-97.
They were just bought from Akaii America by Fender a few months ago. Fender killed the Charvel line, but still sells Jackson.
The old custom shop stuff from California was great. The old 80s Charvels were also great axes. The import stuff now is not so great as used to be the case. The custom shop stuff still rocks, but the production guitars are more blase'.
