Greetings all Gurus! I've got a little crisis!
I just got me a new dual-core machine and it does not come with a parallel port. I still and might forever use Cubase VST 5 and this of course utilizes the parallel port dongle. Do you know if it's at all possible for me to use a parallel to USB adapter cable to make use of the dongle on the new machine? I would have just gone ahead and installed a parallel card, but I ran out of PCI slots.

Outside of that, I know that Steinberg says that you can transfer the liscense from the parallel dongle to a new USB key. Has anyone done so successfully?

Please comment......

i'd just download a "modified" version of cubase. this kind've stupid security crap is why many LEGITIMATE users choose to use a pirated version even if they own an official copy. dongles are stupid.

Actually, you have it the other way around... The "modified" versions are why us legitimate users have to put up with the "stupid security crap". That being said, if you bought your application and have the right to use it, I could not care where you install it from. I am not sure if they make a USB to parallel port converter, but I would not be surprised if someone makes one:)

Thanks for the responses guys! Yes, they do make adapter cables, several are available from NewEgg for less than $20. I'm just not sure if they'd actually work! Guess I'd have to buy one to find out and then if no luck I'll be trying the new Steinberg key....
