Look Mom, I can play!
I have just had a demo of Kontakt and was blown away by its sounds and its performance. And it opens inside Sonar as a DXi:eek: What a beauty. I have to have one. Right now.:D

Anyone else so badly smitten with it? (smitten = to lust after badly. To want to posess. To need. To...well, you get the idea:rolleyes: )

Where can I download this? Perhaps we can share your enthousiasm...

Paul - are we talking electonica sounds? Or real instruments (e.g., Virtual Sound Canvas)? And how much $$$ ?

All sorts of sounds, fantastic pads and ambient moody stuff to "in yer face" electronica. Strings and piano were also impressive. Drums sounded fine too.

In the UK it costs about £250..which means about $2.50 in the USA:rolleyes:

Check out the demo. As soon as everyone goes home I'm d/loading the demo at work:eek:

Ouch, that's way beyond my budget.

I'm just an amateur using Homostudio2002. :D

It's $399 USD from the online store... gulp... way outta my current budget... I'm sure it rocks though...

What are the limitations on the demo? I have Reaktor here and cant stand it. Not my cup of tea.
I want the Edirol Orchestral one I think....

I don't know what the limitations are for the demo. But one thing is for sure...it is the samples that make the great sounds, I don't know what the demo comes with. Future Music magazine here in the UK has some great free sounds that come with the cover CD each month.

But Kontakt will also play wav files too. And multiple instances of them and the navigation window is very cool and useful.

It is bloody expensive though:( But I still want it:)

I have just started getting into this as well. It rocks! Kills my (ancient) PC though as it places quite a demand on the cpu etc. Comes with 5 CDs of samples - electronic, pianos, bass, guitars, drum sets. It will play back WAV files and a whole load of other stuff - including Soundfonts!!!!! Latest upgrade allows streaming from disk (ala Gigastudio). It then allows you to change the envelopes (ADSHR) on the sounds, add internal loops, its own effectcand a whole load of other stuff. Got some good reviews and I am delighted with it - just need to upgrade the PC now :( but then it is a PII 266MHz :o and I needed an excuse!!!!!! :)

Can you start Sonar on a PII 266??? I had problems with my PII 350 with 510 MB RAM...

Yup - runs fine as long as you dont throw too much at it. I have been mainly using it as a midi seqeuncer driving an external JV-1010 so far so that doesn't stress it too much. I have played a little with audio and 6 stereo tracks run fine with a few plug-ins. I haven't done much with the DXi's it comes with as those sounds do not get me excited.

Kontakt now.... thats a differnt ball game! Just hammers the PC bad, especially as it only has 256M RAM....

Now, if I can just get those kids to go to bed....

Wow! I'm impressed! You must have a good audiocard... ;)

Boy... I'm outta budget...

But this sounds kickin' ass. Can I use your CC ?

:D
