It's past time for me to post a tune.....

you're damn STRAIGHT it's about time!

When you gonna think about you and only you? You are like the least self-centered person here, and we're not gonna take it anymore

;)
Crap... was keeping the response to YOUR SONG for last, so it would be the final bump... but you're just too popular, and this will only bump you a few spaces... but what the hell :)

Yeah... excellent voice... would be a cool voice for some Gospel music.... ey'thang sounds clean... love that rhythm... love the dynamics!! Quiet & loud... but each little element pops up... like that sweet guitar solo... I couldn't get that tone in 1,000,000 yrs! And the perfect amount of room sound on it.

The percussion is perfect... man, there's just nothing wrong with this... (vocal clip at 3:45 :D just as I typed that)... yup... the fade out... a long dead device, since the age of vinyl...

Now you could do something silly, like get ME to collab some sax and send it to YOU :D (but that would require an awful lot of drugs, and a serious mental evaluation ;))

Glad to have some experts like yourself around here, L.T.

ok...reading down...I didn't hear any kick off at the beginning...but I see you "fixed it". I thought maybe a couple of the conga hits might have been "askew>>"...but pretty close.

The winner of this song is your vocal tone and personality... HANDS DOWN... Not the song, the playing recording...or that kinda smuck...just your vocal quality. so...you're lucky there,,,ya turd!!.

I recognize the verb sound on the whole kit...as I do that all the time when I am playing back, and have the reverb on ALL the drums, just for a quickie "playback feel". Doesn't particularily bug me...but does sound unatural. But...who cares..eh?

I was waiting for the lead, reading all the comments. Was nice, and nice Fender-ish sound to it. I thought I heard a little slop in the playing but I'd give you a A- for technicallity during the solo section. The pno off to the left in the beginning would be one of my major gripes. ...gotta be stereo, ...even in this case. Mono pianos panned off to the side just bug me for some reason.

The bass, and ac gtr sound fairly decent. And there is nice space and holes left in your recording for room to breathe.

Nice take.

Pussy-magnet .............:D

......Great stuff man...... Ive never heard the original, but damn thats a cool version. Yeah, your voice rocks! It sounds like the voice of a big man. ......a big man thats serious about his blues. .......very nice. And that bass tone is sweet man...... I want details on that. .......Complete desription of guitar as well as the chain. I hope you didnt already provide that........ I'll read back.

GREAT song Steve, .......great!

:)

Yes, yes YES! The new solo is so much better! Its REAL! Hell, I don't even care about the kick reverb at the beginning anymore!

I realized something. Its ONLY at the beginning that the kick verb bothered me and I think I know why. It shouldn't be a kick at all, but some other percussion instrument for that hit--maybe a clave or something--with the verb--maybe even some echo to get that barrel feeling. I know I'm pushing my luck--I got my 50% granted! :D

Let's just call this sitting around and discussing production options. The new guitar is such a great improvement though, you don't have to listen to me anymore! Was that big bend there a nod to Jimi? Thought so!

:D Yeah....that was definitely a Jimi bend. I knew you'd catch that.:D And you know what I wanted at the beginning? Those deep drums that Jimi used at the beginning of Electric Ladyland. But since I didn't have that.....kick it was!

Thanks ya'll. I really mean it. I'm just home from a gig and I've got my Johhny Walker Black buzz on. I don't want to get maudlin but your comments mean more to me than I can say without getting gushy. I truly consider you guys my friends and I appreciate you all a lot.

You know what else? I never did get any sleep....I was up 'till 5:00 finishing this last night, had to get up at 8:30 and then when I got home from work; instead of sleeping I worked on the tune 'till I was happier with it and then I had a gig.....and I'm drunk to boot!
So I'm gonna go eat my Jack-In the Box food and fade out. Talk to ya'll tomorrow,
Steve

Oh, but first the chain:
The vocals are thru a NT-1 into a Mackie board.

The guitar is one I built, a Paduak body and neck with EMG pickups. The solo is thru a V-Amp.

The bass is a Peavy of some kind thru a J-Station. The British Bass amp I think.

OK now it's junk food time. :D

Just wanted to say that when I read which song you were doing I almost didn't listen because Randy's probably my favorite songwriter & I've spent years cringing at the more well-known versions of his songs, which always completely miss the point of the song.

But you did a hellofa good job here. You really found another way to approach this that's just as valid as the original & that's not easy to do.

I have no sonic complaints. Just wanted to give you a thumbs-up!

Chris

Maaaaaana, What is this? You should be famous with that voice. I luuuuuve it. Great man.

Sorry I'm a bit over excited. Must be the weed

You better look out,LT.
Now everybody is going to want you to play sax AND sing on their stuff!
(Me first?):D

Great googely gifs, Sam! I like the joint! :D

The Pink Panther is pretty cool too.

Thanks groucho, Sixstring, Muzeman, Nick, SAM!, SLuiCe, and Smilestoned (didn't your mom tell you to bring enough for everyone? :D )

I really appreciate the kind comments from everyone...especially on the singing. I mean, lets face it, the one area we're all most insecure about is our singing. So that's the part that I think we all cringe at when we listen to our own recordings. I sure do but I feel much better about this one now.

I think for Christmas I might try to do You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch as suggested earlier. I wonder if there's a way to blues that up a bit? We'll see.

Hey Muze....don't I have something to do with you and Gidge?

I forgot to mention that the second version is even better than the first.. and the first was great.. In all seriousness, you should be singing more..

That MR. Grinch cover will be a classic man............ That just simply "must" be done!!!!

:D :)

I'm a slacker,and darn proud of it!:D
(I am working on it,I promise!)

Mr. Grinch

Ahmed and Dweezil Zappa did Mr. Grinch for the newer Jim carey version of the movie. Check it out if you can find it. It's pretty cool.
