I voted for the Portico because it is hyped to the max and no one has tried it yet. So, in keeping with the BBS tradition, it is a Neve and well worth the investment (I think, based on 5th hand information I heard from someone else).

It's been "tried" and "convicted" in another thread :) I'm curious about this little puppy now - even though it's plagued with an external power supply.

Mr. Produca - I voted for the GR. I've heard it and liked what I heard. Wish I had the $$$ for some new gear.

great river looks to be a tried and true pre,if you had a GR would you consider any other pre an upgrade or more of a side-step?

Grace 101 works for me as I require clarity with no coloration when amp-micing &/or vocals! As far as "warmth" is concerned, I require that warmth to be provided by the vocalists or when I'm playing one of my instruments!

I see that you are from New York. I have a question, I want to know the price of a Grace 101 because I have heard they are really, really good. My new summer job will allow me to afford one too. I hear New York is a good place for good prices, but I know there is alot of crime. Have you been mugged or robbed? Just asking because I can take a train there but I have heard that the trains and subways are very dangerous. If I lose all my money, I cannot get the Grace 101. My friends over at Harmony Central seem to think that the Grace is a little better than the Behringer (he did not tell me the model number), do you have any Behringer pre-amps? Do you know what model is like the Grace 101? If they sound the same, I will save enough money to help my grandmother have some corns removed from her face and feet. I know that is what she wants for her birthday.

Anyway, thanks for any advice.

show love for the avalon

its good to see some people chose the avalon,i was worried seeing all the stuff said about it,i know some poeple really hate this pre,but i cant find a fault in anything recorded with it  maybe its just because im a newbie or whateva  or my lack of experience with this high end stuff

If you know how to solder, I'd recommend the Seventh Circle Audio preamps. If you build them yourself they can come as cheap as $149 per channel. You could have a pair of API style pres, a pair of Neve style pres, and a quad of Millenia style pres for around $2200. The get nothing but rave reviews from pros that have used the pres that they're modeled after.
