Thought for the day: how many of us have recording rigs that are in some ways more advanced than what The Beatles "Love Me Do" was recorded on? Or Muddy Waters' "Mannish Boy" or Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away"? Just a reminder not to get too frustrated because you can't afford the Digidiot X-1000 infinity-bit precompualizer with metric flux-capacitor plug-in and DSP Earth modulation control. I know it's a nice piece of gear, but as long as you've got a tape recorder, a mic, a guitar and YOUR TALENT, you should be making music, no?

Nikki7, you've said it. KEEP it simple. I know guys that have big $$$$$$$$ tied up into any type of gear you can think of an still complain about thier sound. For me, I use my ES-125TCD into an anolog delay into a '54 Fender Deluxe. Or sometimes I use my Strat. It's nothing special, just a plain black Seventies strat with Texas Specials through the same rig. And if I want to record, I get out the old reliable SM-57s and tascam 4 track and record every one in the room at the same time. When I play I play for the enjoyment of it. The last thing I want to do is spend an hour adjusting bells and whistles and trying to remember three million factory presets on some futuristic Star Wars rack system. Then after getting the hyperwarp set just right on the Millimium Falcon, having to record each instrument seperatley on 100 tracks each in hopes of getting the perfect mix down. One guitar, one amp, one stand up bass, three drums, one Echoplex , and lots of fun............

i have a 61 P bass and there's nothing i can really do to it to change the sound....it is what it is, and it's a WONDERFUL sound....all it needs is an amp that gives a good punch even in low volume situations....but the tone is fine...
i've been shedding that tone for ten years...now all i gotta do is learn how to play!
