It rained today.......

It's a DNS change people, servers are still there, but some people might be able to get back in faster than others, since the new DNS entry has to propagate around the world!

Some ISP's are pathetically slow about updating... So the odd one of you might be SOL for a while more.

Also....I'm gonna go there right

And Dobro.....more like $2k at the time I bought it.....geez, maybe that's why I can't afford to go to a movie! :D

Finally got it!

Nice stuff, Steve. I agree with most of what's already been said. Very tribal sounding. Takes a little long getting started (40 seconds of rain? :D ), but it's quite nice once it does.

Let us know what you end up doing with it.

Mike

Dear Bob,
The safari was wonderful. I have arrived safe and sound back here in the states. However, the typical tour guide that I had grown accustomed to was unavailable, so I decided to go it alone...this time. Funny thing happened whilst I was out capturing the essence of this particular jungle.
I was out and about for a number of days, and was seemingly followed by a plodding, trudging (is that a word?) theme that seem to grow louder, intense, and more purposeful as time passed. It was remarkably impressionistic in it's flavor. As the days went by, this theme grew on me, and by the last day, I felt is was part of the landscape that I had come upon. Now that I am back, I still hear that theme when I think back to this last outing. Funny thing is, there are NO speakers in any jungles I have been in and studied before.
Signed, Bwana Tyler

Great job, dude. I am not going to comment on the audible technical merits. They are few and non-contributory to the vibe that you SO MAJOR captured here. Enjoyed it!

This is Friggin' Great!

Hey Lt! Very nice job, man! I'm thinking movie soundtrack here...definitely goes along with the cirque theme!

I just got DSL (YES!) and this is one that is definitely going on the download list (yes, all 6 minutes of it!)

Can't think of any real feedback (i.e. mix stuff) except that maybe the rain at the beginning does go on a bit long (I think that was already mentioned) ... otherwise this is just excellent! Very ambiant and hypnotic.

I could totally see this tune being played in something like Lord Of The rings or something!

Very cool stuff!

:D

I, for one, loved EVERY drop of that rain. Every drop. What can I say. My cup of tea. Tasteful, and refreshing from this listeners ear. When "new shit" starts to sound as well thought out and "vibing" like some of the "old shit", THEN....and only THEN.....do I personally get "moved". Keep it raining!!!!! :D

unless....................I am a sucker for this genre. LOL

Thats some of the best sounding rain ive heard in awhile :)

Im @ 3 minutes here and got ~ 5 left :)

Pretty cool.... reminds me of an ambiant Fleetwoods macs tusk.

reminds me of the point in a movie where the movie is setting up for the climax. Like the turning point of the movie.

Cool tune to chill out to..

thanks

I thought so too. It actually never even occurred to me while I was doing it, but when I was mixing it, I noticed the resemblance, especially toward the end after the horns come in. I swear, it wasn't intentional.

dachay2tnr....glad you finally got the thing, I appreciate your persistence.

SOUND DIAGNOSIS..very nice description of your reaction......that's really the kind of response I hope to get from people......it's not a song in the standard sense......but I like this kind of stuff to listen to so I also record these types of , well, I guess I don't know what to call it. I've always refferred to them as sonic tapestries......but that sounds a little pretentious , I think.
As for the rain, I'm so glad that at least someone didn't hate that. The reason it ended up being so long is cause when I was mixing, I was picturing something in my mind. I wanted to get that rolling thunder in there and I wanted the didgeridoo to sound like it was coming closer from a distance. I also didn't want to start with the thunder, I wanted there to be rain first.
I hear what everyone was saying about the length and yet, for me, it didn't seem that long. Have you ever listened to Pink Floyd's 'Meddle'? Those songs are long and often repititious and I suppose not everyone likes them.....but they've always carried me away to a foreign land. I'm really happy to know that this moved you no matter how slightly that may have been....thanks a lot!

boydrj......thanks man. My wife says I should send this to the Cirqu. Maybe I will. I saw a show about the making of a new Cirque show and their music approach was chaotic and even almost amaturish a little bit. They audition tapes they ended up picking were surprisingly so-so. So maybe they could use me! LOL I know better but what the hell.

although I wouldn't consider this 'space music,' I liked it! you probably knew I'd like it.. good sounds.. it really didn't seems as long as it was.. the rain didn't go with the feel for me because I pictured this being the music for a freak show! :D (Although I haven't seen a good freak show in awhile, except for the clinic.)

it's on the 3rd spin in a row.. Who else would spin this 3 times back to back.. It's been playing for a half hour! :D

there's one synth voice I'm not crazy about because it sounds too synthy for the backdrop, but I had to nit about something.. Great sax accents! I have to give you 5 for this I because I really liked it! right up my alley..

Hey Steve,

...man, this even sounded good on my shitty computer here at work. Nice vibe music for sure. I like the flute sound in this, whats that from? .....are those plastic horns?:D .....curse you sax man. .....just kiddin

Nice one stevie

Hey Steve, This was a very cool tune and a very pleasant surprise as well. I like this kind of stuff a lot especially on a rainy day. I was about half way through on my first listen when I was reminded of some old LPs I have by a guy named Andreas Vollenweider. Very moody stuff, and an A+ for versatility!

Cool stuff

Great opening. The pan flutes with the digiridou and the skin drums sound great. I would'nt mind losing the cymbal and putting in a shaker of some type and perhaps a guiro. I like the organ sound a lot, it has a lot of "air" in it.

I take this is all electronic stuff--how about trying a doumbek instead of the tuba, I would like to hear something more resonant. I am not sure the horns work for me. You have all this wonderful "wood" sounding stuff going on and then toss in the harsh brass sound over the top. Perhaps switching out to melodic percusion--xylophone, maybe even steel drums!

This is a very cool piece. Just some ideas to toss around. I could easily see this being used as opening for a documentary etc. on PBS. Really good stuff!

I've been listening again - the weak card's the rain and thunder. Two things - the thunder needs more balls - it's *thunder* furphuxache! LOL Thunder shakes you up.

As for the rain, how can you make the rain sound more like rain as it fades in, instead of just noise or hiss? How about two rain sounds - the one you've got, which is quite busy rain, PLUS a quieter, individually drip drop kinda rain sound?

The music itself is fine. I don't see jungles when I hear this one. But maybe that's cuz I live in a jungle. I don't see anything, in fact. I feel it, though, and it's muscular.

Dobro.....yeah, I agree about the rain.....on my system it sounds pretty good, but after the conversion, it just sounds like white noise. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with it 'cause I'm gonna use that spoken word bit that Toki wrote and I might delete the rain altogether and use some other ambient sound. I just don't know yet 'cause I was just having a rain day and never intended this to be anything more.......but I like it and with Toki's bit added.....I think it's worth some more work, so we'll see.

G....no, everything on this is out of my keyboard. Truth be told, I couldn't possibly remember which patches it was. I just piddled around 'till I heard something I liked. Thanks for listening man. :)

twist......I love Andreas Vollenweider! It hadn't occurred to me but there is a resemblance. I guess it's that influence rattling around in my brain. I have most of his albums and I used to listen to them over and over so I guess that finally perculated to the surface.

sloop..........some good suggestions. Inparticular, I really agree about the horn sounds. I like the synchopation they add to the tune but the sound is grating. I was thinking I just needed to find better horn patches but I think you have a better idea.....to use different sounds altogether. Or maybe I'll break out my sax and use a real horn. You've definitely given me some ideas......when they get incorporated into it, I'll make sure you get credit for it.

Very nice Lt. It could very easily work as a video (movie) soundtrack. I get tons of visuals when listening to it. Most dominant was a foggy, mossy-treed, rain forest type scene, "Lord of the Rings" like. Let us know what you do with it.

rpe

No - I like the rain! LOL Keep the rain. How about that thunder at the beginning which lets everybody know it's rain they're hearing? Like I said in my first post - I was listening on headphones, and the rain sound was real enough for me to think it was actually raining. But it translates less well on speakers I guess, coming in quietly like that. If you're of two minds about it, then leave it in. Trust other ears. LOL

dobro with the other ears :D

.......we had a little tropical storm come in around Morgan City today and my tunings for the day all rescheduled because of the weather...........so all of a sudden I had a free day.

Well I decided I'd clean the house a little bit so I put on a Cirque Du Soleil Cd and got *inspired* if you catch my drift. ;) After about ten minutes of that music.....I dropped everything and headed for my music room.
This is what I spent the day doing. Everything's 1st or 2nd takes......it's not perfect but I was just playing around so I didn't really care........just a rainy day project. :)

BTW....what sounds like hiss in the beginning, is actually rain.....it didn't come across very well on the MP3. It fades out after the song gets going .

Sure wish I knew how to make these letters red.

If you don't like droning space music songs.....then don't listen to this 'cause you'll HATE it!!! :D
This is one of those songs that has a theme that it repeats until it drives it into obnoxiousness........constantly adding more instruments but always staying on that theme; so some folks will find it repetitious.
It's meant to be more of a mood piece.....kinda like, well hell, I don't know what it's kinda like.....it's kinda like a rainy-ass day, all right?! :D

I'm aware that I get a little too enthusiastic with the tympanis BTW. :D:D

pretty cool

Cool piece Lt.-nice rain sound-I always mean to record these huge southern rain storms-but never do-you got it nicely. Good sounds and good build up-song doesnt seem long at all. Very cinematic sounding-I'm picturing an army preparing for battle-in a fantasy/space setting of course :). I wouldn't have minded more percussion-this would be cool to segue into a major percusion piece and then.....then....you got my idea factory in overdrive at 8am, good way to start the day.

It's meant to be more of a mood piece.....
:) , and that it is! This makes me wanna go kill all the rabbits around my place:D hahaha! No, wife say's they're to sweet:rolleyes: . Loved the "vibe" and recording is great as alway's! Thanks Steve

I'm with Trip all the way here...

Hey, A1B2 (or whatever his name is) should fix you up with some flash video to accompany it or something like that. :)

If you could lower the timpani volume a bit it would sound better. Otherwise no mixing comments.
