Issues with my Firepod/Macbook

I have been working with my (new) firepod for about a month now... And I love the thing... it's a great piece of equipment... I had to swap out Cubase LE because it wasn't good enough... and got SE 3... but... I have encountered two major issues with these products...

First of all, a little more on my equipment... I connect the Firepod into the "black" macbook via firewire... it's not perfect... it only has 512 mb RAM and only 1.8 gHz processing power... but it should be enough... as I've had successful recordings with it...

However, the first major problem is that many times my recordings will skip. As in a small section of the song (say 80 ms) doesn't get recorded, and thus the recording jumps... I have realized that two factors are that I must always have a freshly restarted computer when I go to record a new song... and that I must make sure my internet is off... however... on occasion it will still happen. And I don't know why... Because I have had successful recordings... many of them... I realize I need more RAM... but... again... I still have good recordings... just on occasion they will skip for some odd reason.

The other issue is that many times the Firepod will record with a load of static. And I have no idea what causes this, and no idea how to get rid of it... sometimes it goes away when I restart the computer as well as the firepod... but it doesn't work every time...

So how can I rectify those problems?

this may be stupid but I have heard alot of people having problems with CUbase on the intel macs, being that they haven't released a universal binary (i don't think, anyway.) So if that's the case you may want to open up garage band and see if the problem continues......Let's you know if it's cubase or something else........................ :o

*sigh* I greatly wish to end my use of Garageband altogether. Not to mention it would defeat the original intention of my firepod (recording multiple inputs at once).

Should I send a complaint to apple?

Apple is just making there stuff better by switching to the Intels over PPC's. Steinberg is working on the new Cubase and will release it in a Universal Binary......I couldn't even get the Cubase LE with my Firepod to install on my MacBook Pro.........I am selling my old Roland VS set up to buy Logic Express. So if you are gonna email anyone email steinberg or PreSonus. I am curious to know what they are sending out with the FirePods 'n' such now.....Hmmmm???????

Try increasing the number (or size) of your buffers

Somewhere in Cubase there'll be an Audio settings menu option. Go there and select ASIO as your driver. Then you should be able to select the number of buffer samples

ASIO? You haven't used a Mac in a while, have you? :D

Should say CoreAudio or "Core Audio". ASIO hasn't been part of the Mac experience since Mac OS X came out... at the turn of the century, give or take a few months....

well Everything says "Master ASIO Driver" in the device setup menu... o_O

Oh well... what exactly does increasing the buffer do?
