I have an AKG P120 but its not picking up sound. My gain is up, main mix level is up on my XenyxQ502. Phantom power is on. My computer is saying everything is working properly but nothing. My live mic is working fine, it picks that up with the levels but when i plug in the AKG it doesn't. Help please.

Its the same XLR cable i connected the live mic to. And that works fine. You're saying the cable might not be strong enough to handle the mic?

"Live" mic? What is that? Does it use phantom power? I have on occasion had a cable work with a dynamic but not a phantom powered mic. Trouble shooting 101 - check the most likely things to fail 1st. Cables fall into that category.

Do you have the 48v, phantom power, switch on? I'm guessing not.

Its a live performance mic. But thanks to you guys i figured it. The q502 only has 15v of phantom power. I have a separate phantom power supply with an XLR connection, but im not sure how that would work with the mixer. Im just gonna have to buy a better mixer, a stronger mixer. Thanks again.

Turn mixer's phantom off. Plug mic into your outboard supply. Plug supply output to mixer's mic input.
