im looking for some help i cant seem to record vocals on cubase v4

i managed to get to record at the beginning but the music was getting into the mic track..(not thru the mic).....never happenned before
so i started playing with the buttons while it was recording and the system crashed (got a serious error ocurred notice) ..since then i havent been able to get the mic going

Ive tried everything
i restarted pc
i reinstalled cubase
i reinstalled audigy drivers still nothing
im able to get music play from the speakers so i know the soundcard is good
also thru the windows hardware test the mic works fine
its just cubase refuses to show the mic signal
any suggestions
i know how cubase works you are suposed to replace the drivers on vst connections by removing and adding busses
but that doesnt solve the problem
the soundcard audigy shows active on device setup
i also tested on my acid pro 7 and i get no mic sound either
i made a video of the issue please disregard the distortion

i've had that same problem, where the track came in through a driect in bass channel. what kind of mixer are you using? I found that i had the track being monitored through headphones AND a usb return line which was being picked up on a line in input. not sure how it happened but yes, some mixer button mashing fixed that problem.

about the mic not working, on the track you have designated for the mic to record on: Highlight the track itself (the box on the left with the mute/solo buttons etc) and see what your input/output sends are selected as. sometimes it will show the tab you can change these at. if you don't see the input tab above the output tab click the track itself... i.e.

track 01 <--- click
inserts
sends
eq
channel

(i believe that's the way it looks)

then you should have a tab on the left that will display your input/output busses

double check that the input you have selected is the same vst connection.

i think you covered that but open the vst connections window and make sure that your input bus is the same as the input bus you have selected for the channel.

if the mixer you are using (if any) detects the microphone, then it shouldn't be a mic issue, check the busses... or its your mixer-computer connection.

hope that helped! good luck

thanks for the input

Update
ok i managed to get sound thru the mic using "Mono in" using the same soundcard setup
so one less to go...

im getting the music into the mic track so thats the next trouble shooting..getting rid of the music from the mic track, also with the mono channel everything is now only on one side (Mono)..

any chance it's picking up a monitor or headphones in any way? how loud is it, like would a noise gate fix it or is it just ridiculous?
