hi guys i need to buils a soundproof isolation box for my guitar amp so i can mic it and not keep the whole house up at night,it would also help keep outside noises outta the tracks.what im looking for is somthing fairly inexpensive, my amp is just a 1=12 combo 65 watt crate which i run my preamp through.whats good materials to use, and do you normaly glue screw or nail these together, and what about holes to pass cables through and the mic hole, is there a way to seal them to make it more effective. im looking to build it this weekend so any help would be awesome and much appreciated, also do ya normally insulate this kind of thing and what works best. thanks alot god bless flash

You said that you were using the mic pre-amp (XLR) out-put.
Can't you just kill the sound on the amp and use headphones for recording?

What city are you near?
Michigan rules!

hi there fellow michigander, i live in cadillac which is way north of you, im about 45 miles south of traverse city mich. i love mich to because i love the 4 seasons so much, me and my daughter snowboard and do sports for each season pretty much, as far as running it like you said im not to happy with the results that i get tone wise, it just sounds so much better with a mic(sm-57) in front of it. that is why i wanna build a isolation box that is soundproof, heck during the day my kid watches cartoons so loud that i can hear them coming thru my mic im using when im not playing lol, ive probably gott pokemon some where in my tracks lol. thanks for responding and god bless flash

my mom lives in Houghton Lake so I definately know the area! Very nice up there!
I use sm57's for my guitars too. They sound great! I also have a Sans Amp but it is not the same.
If you are going for a heavy distortion maybe get a smaller tube amp and crank it with the mic right at the speaker. With a pedal it should even get dirtier.
