Is this the "correct" way that computer recording is done?

I always record my tracks in Cubase SX3, then I put plug-in inserts on each track, sometimes add fx-busses, until everything sounds how I think it should. Then I mix everything with EQ's on each track until everything sounds as good as I can on my monitors. Then I just mixdown the whole thing to a WAV file and that's what I burn to a CD. Are there any steps I'm missing?

Also what is the Steinberg Wavelab software used for? I got it for free with Cubase SX3 and I have no idea what it does. It says it's for mastering, but I always hear it's better to have someone else master tracks for you.

The only thing missing is mastering but that, for best results, needs some expertise. Lots of folk do their own mastering. It's a bit too magioscientific for me so as well as me not being abstract/dispassionate enough, one day, I'll get it done for real to at least one track.
Oh & how about the step of converting the wave to MP3 so you can post it in the MP3 Clinic?
