Is this song too bla???

Just caught mixmkr's remix...

I find it "too nice." It's too predictable, IMHO, although technically great.

It's Fruity Poop, excuse me saying so. The bassline is good (I'd drop the transitional 4#, so that it's just 4 -> 5), but the canned strings/drums kill the "innocence" of the song.

IMHO, remember. Just spoutin' off ideas/impressions...
 
Erland, that tune can stand by itself. Very, very good tune. Really nice and simple in a Cat Stevens kind of way. For me it's their simplicity that makes them so listenable. As always, a pleasure to listen to.
 
I've been away for awhile. Then I come back for a visit and I hear this. This is an awesome song. I am truly impressed. The writing and delivery are excellent.

I completely agree. Yeah, mess with the compression, etc... but first, be happy with the song. It's a beauty.

CyanJaguar. Thanks! I recorded using my boss BR532 and a shure 606 which I got free with it. I miced a friends 5 string guitar and used the compression effect. Then I did the vocals plus a simple harmony. Oh, I also used the eq to make it sounds better on crap speakers. I monitor with chunky headphones which is a problem because it always sounds good on them. Why is it off centre? well, The guitar is off to the left and the singing a little bit to the right plus it makes you listen, unsettled! ha, sorry mate.

Track Rat. Hi there. Wow, thanks. I have only heard one Cat Stevens song. I loved it, " I listened to the wind to the wind of my sole" one. Cheers. One day I will do a complicated song, promise.

gmiller1122. I am a newbie and I love this site. One minute your song is in your head the next... great. So glad you liked it. Thats a great compliment. I don`t change the songs once thier finished, I just learn to do it better the next time. Thanks.

Another great tune from you Erland. You are very talented. There's just something about your vocals mixed with your playing that makes the song need nothing else.

I guess the whole bla thing depends on who listens to it, but nevertheless it's a great song you have a great voice that accompanies your type of music. I think if i was in the "relationship" type mood I would appreciate it more, but you shouldn't change anything.
 
Well...

I usually don't post in the MP3 clinic because... well.. because my mommy taught me that if you don't have anything nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all.. :p I'm a very picky music listener... and as a result I really haven't had anything good to say about much that I've heard here so far....

but...

that song was beautiful.

The simplicity of the guitars, and the soft harmonies, and the (as previously noted) in-your-face yet somehow still "meek" vocals were perfect. (On a side note, I love the accent) :D Maybe it's my musical history influencing me... I "grew up" listening to a band named Del Amitri... very similar style to that song... very moody/emotional music.. it kind of sets a mood that you're almost driven to emulate... anyway... that was really good. Not just the recording, but the song itself... just figured I'd pay you the compliment since I finally had something nice to say. :D

P.S.S. If you actually lived on the same continent as me, I would fly you to Saint Louie and force you to sing for my band. :p I've been looking for a male vocalist for over a year and have yet to find anything even close to the talent you have.

Speaking of which.. if anyone knows (or is) a good male vox in the St. Louis area, please let me know. :(

Anywhoo.. it never stops. You'll always feel that semi-embarrased twinge whenever you hear yourself singing. Eventually you get pretty numb to it though.

And I knew there was something familiar about your music... Del Amitri is a Scottish band, so you prolly got your styles from the same musical roots. As for DADGAD.. that's a common tuning used over there in your neck of the woods. Actually, loads of American radio tunes use it now cause... well.. cause it's so d@mn easy to play. :D And because it makes even the crappiest guitar player sound good. (which most of these American bands need nowadays.) :p

Next time I'm in Europe, though, I'll be sure to track you down. :D

You know what.. I was thinking the same thing and I completely forgot to mention it. This song totally belongs on the soundtrack to some romantic/drama or something. Some guy is on the verge of braking up with his chick or whatever and he's drivin' down the busy city streets reflecting on their relationship and this song is playin' in the background... it's a perfect fit. :p

P.S. I swear, I've listened to this thing prolly 30-40 times by now. I was playin' along with it for a while and trying to figure out accompaniment parts on the acoustic and what not. It's a great tune. I even played it for a singer I auditioned just to show him what type of stuff I like to hear.

I usually don't like to compare, but I mean this in the a very complimentarykind of way, it reminds me of the early Cat Steaven's stuff. Like Tea for the Tillerman sound.

A real winner!!!
