I just watched this video and it says you should use an audio interface from your mixer to your pc. Ive just been using usb strait from my alesis to my pc. Do i need to go the audio interface route to get a better sound? if so why? and what would you recomend to use with an alesis multimix?

no, you dont have to get extra sound card as in the video. in fact, cheap sound card may mess up your recordings with extra hiss or buzz.

If your Alesis has a USB connection to the computer it is the interface and mixer in one combined unit.

it would be exactly the same, except it would mix more inputs to the stereo usb out.

- EDIT -
Looked at the multimix 16 2.0, and, if you have the 8 usb 1.0 and upgrade to the multimix 16 usb 2.0, you will be jumping from a mixer that sends a stereo signal of all it's inputs to your computer to a truly multi-channel interface - one that will send individual inputs to your computer as individual tracks.

So, would it be better?

Not if you don't need it.

An audio interface serves as a sound card for your PC. An additional sound card is not required !
