Is this ok or not for a kid to sing?

We decided not to cut out anything. CD-presentation will be the 25th of next month.
 
I guess I am a little late,
I probably would have changed it and let them perform it that way live to really get a rise out of the crowd. For some reason, when people assemble in massive numbers, the word fuck brings huge amounts of applause. I don't understand it, it's a word.

Anyway, I would be interested to hear the song, could you post it somewhere?

Reason I decided to not alter anything was a local radio broadcast of a music night from the school this band is coming from. Several bands performed there and I heard lyrics equal to the one this thread was all about. Seems like the school and teachers aren't offended and concerned about it. BTW changing would be lots and lots of work, since the premaster is allready at the factory, ready to be dupliucated 1000 times.
 
That's great Downside. With the great energy that's gone into this project,

it will probably turn out to be a smash hit. It sounds like fun, and like a great vehicle to promote your studio.

No doubt, some credit should be given to the fact that society's a bit more liberal in Holland, than in the US.

IMO, in the US, having a high school oriented recording project with that type of provocative language, would surely be a lightning rod for criticizm and controversy, but in Holland, it just gets a yawn.

I know "Fuck me...", in context of a song, is an artistic use of language, etc, but my gut feeling is that most parents probably don't want to hear their school aged children swearing or using the 'f' word, especially not recorded on tape.

Also, I don't think most parents want their kids listening to music with lots of swearing, & the 'f' word. Here, in the US, records with that type of language gets a "WARNING" label, and when certain things are played on MTV, they're edited and 'bleeped' heavily.

Otherwise, the way you describe it, your project sounds really cool & exciting, and I wish you the best of luck. I hope it gains you visibility, artistic accolades, new revenue and new clientele.

Good luck on your release date. I expect the update to be that it's a big popular hit. Maybe, if you have an extra copy, you could send one my way. I'd love to hear the music you're recording, with all those kids, and that huge board! ;)
 
That's the way to go! The studiodude gotta be the biggest punk of 'em all, ya know. Don't bother about it.
 
Update:

I guess it was ok afterall. The cd has been on the market for over two weeks now, and nobody mentioned anything about it. So she can obviously fuck with whomever she wants.

I'm in high school, and no matter weather you change it or not, un less it says "hug me and through me away" theres going to be upset parents. Fuck um, put it in.
 
Personally, I just don’t hear enough teenage girls saying “fuck me” these days. I’m all for it!
 
unless Tipper Gore shows up for a suprise visit, looks like you're in the clear. Personally, for the US highschool audience, I think I would've changed it. I have several of my friends' CDs where 'fuck' abounds, but we're slightly older(18), and male anyway.
 
they are dutch and the songs are all in english?

maybe the word has less meaning for everybody there.

would she say the same thing in her own language?

if you think about the great songs of all time i wonder how many rely on vulgar language to create interest.

kids get a thrill from saying naughty words.

i am hopping on a jet to fly over there and smoke some of that great legal weed!

As a parent of 2 girls in high school I can tell you EXACTLY how I would feel. Pissed at everyone that had anything to do with my daughter using a word like that. Word-of-mouth can be your best friend or your worst nightmare.

Nothing is worse than unleashing the wrath of an angry parent regarding "how" their son or daughter was "misguided" in some sort of school function.

Those same parents were standing first row in the audience applauding duren the cd-presentation when their daughter was on stage singing the song. I guess that means they are ok with it.

Two reasons made me decide to not alter the text:
1. the productions was in a such a productionstage, a change would mean a recall, and delay of presenation
2. the songs had to be screened by schools before submission (although that actually didn't happen it was one of the basicrules of the contest)

Well, over 500 of the cd's are gone by now, and I didn't get one bad comment. Just good. We are right now planning the next edition which will be much bigger etc.
