lol how did I guess you wouldnt put in a positive word! You cant can you! Your bitter.

Thanks all for the comments. Im gonna work on this mix again today.
I would really like to work on Marinas CD. Depends if she is happy with my work though. :)

I would really apreciate that BigBubba, you checking it out on your theatre system tos ee how the hi end holds up.

Peace,
Eck

Interesting, you PM me asking for my honest opinion, and I gave it. But really, you didn't want an honest opinion, you just wanted smoke blown up your ass about your "skills" or something.

I give positive words when there is something positive to say about it. This is crap soundfonts/midi production with a marginally talented singer over it. The sounds are not put together very well, and the songwriting is FAR from something that will ever turn the head of a record label A&R person. I can't imagine any 11 year old girl liking this, or ever giving it a second listen.

So, the song is crap really. The producing was crap. The mix lacks. What positives can I give it?

Oh, good job mixing it on the cheap man!

And about the bitter comment. When somebody puts up something that is actually worthy of some praise from me, you will see that I am FAR from bitter. I am HONEST, and that should not be confused with bitter.

I have been posting on this BBS for 8 years now. One thing I know for a fact is that people blow smoke up your ass about your work that you post. I have posted total crap mixes and had people sing it's praises, and talk endlessly about how "professional and polished" it sounds.

If you think of this place as the deaf leading the deaf, you will understand my position a little better! ;)

Eck,

The song does sound nice on the home theater system. However, I do agree with Ford on the vocals. They are a little "sizzly". Now what I'm assuming Ford is meaning by sizzly is the same sibilance that Tim is talking about.

Maybe like Tim says, spot EQ in the 5-10kHz range depending on where it's peaking. I say 5-10K 'coz that's the normal range given in "theory" about the sibilants' range.

It's a totally different experience on the hometheater system. It sounds better than on the work headphones. The snare is not something I'm too crazy about.

The hats are not too visible in the last mix.

I'm assuming the The Strength That I Need is the same as you posted in the previous post on the soundclick at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=415936&songID=4414514.

If so, I'd say the maybe the brightness of the mix wasn't so much the thing sticking out before but just the vocals being a little over bright.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the hats and the cymbals can be bright like before and I don't see any issue with those on the soundclick.com POP MIX that you posted. To make a long story short, I'd say leave the mix like before and just tackle the vox. :)

Around 0:45 "down" is giving out this sssss that is the kind of thing that I'm talking about, for the sake of example. Around 0:28, "Take". 0:37 - "Time", 0:38 - "To". Things like this are the singers accent, be it foreign or just upstate newyork miss-a-little-extra-Italian. It's not your fault but you're stuck fixing it. :)

Sorry about the mess.

Cheers BigBubba.
Each time I do a new mix I replace it on Soundclick.
I pulled the hi end down a smigen on the overall mix.

Yeah you could be right about the cymbals and hats. Just theres alot of rythyms going on, like maracas, acoustic guitars n stuff, but Im sure the mix will allow some more hats and cymbals

I took a good 3dB of hi off the vox, but the sybilance was still there. I didnt want to use de esser or cut the hi any more, so I rided the vox fader to try and eliminate the Sss and ttt sounds. I will go back and fix more I think, although it is tricky to get rid of this sybilance. Bah!

Cheers,
Eck

Just aquick question.
Have you ever heard a commercial released pop song with this amount of sybilance on the vox. Im sure there must be some out there. :)

Yup, I rest my case. You ARE just looking for people to blow smoke up your ass.
NO I amnt. I am looking for advise on my mix. If you read the post you can see I am getting advise and using it.

Why are you on this forum if you never have anything positive to say. All you do is put people down, saying how great you are, which I dont agree with presonally by listening to your mixes.

LOL........you are so funny too!

Having something positive to say hasn't gotten you any better yet! The critisism's are what you learn from. Or at least SHOULD learn from.

You will have to sit at a console for 5k hours before you can mix like I do.

Up for a mix challenge? ;)

Dunno, sounds like a DARE Eck.

What KIND of a mix challenge, Mr. Van?

Tim

Yes I would love a mix off between me and Ford Van if he is willing to accept.

I have not learnt anything atall from you FordVan but plenty from the other users. Yeah its about learning and youa rent teaching me anything!

Bring it on. This could be interesting.

Tim, I suggest you post all your wavs from your other blues short track thread for these two gentlemen to mix. And you could sit back on your softer regions and have some Shiner in the meantime. :)

Sorry man... nobody's mixing that one but ME!!! :p :p :D

Tim

Tim, I was thinking I might be overstepping my boundaries with that suggestion but had to throw it out there. :)

Hey all, I have decided to leave the sybilance in.
I dont beleive it to be bad for the mix.

Thanks all for your input. Really apreciate it

Eck
