Is this handling noise typical of other SDC's?

I just got to try Oktava mk-012's late last night, a quick test in head phones. Set on a tripod boom in their clip mount at moderately high gain -nominal' level for quiet singing, they had significant rumble with foot taps. I figure a low cut can tame that. More interesting though was picking up a two or three hundred Hz ring from the stand. So I stuck them in an AT8410 shock mount. This tamed the foot taps, but the ring remains big time.
For comparison all I have in SDC directional (save for dynamics) is the old ATM31 and KSM32. They're both very quiet.
My first app for these is going to be a cymbal pair on this stand right in front of the kick..
I'll go with one Oktava and the 32' for a comparison this week end to see if the noise is a factor.
So question is.. are these any better or worse off than other directional SDC's, and have you seasoned mk12'rs had problems with this?

nope. i've used them quite a bit. great mics. no problems here.

i don't know if "handling noise" is what you're hearing.

are you really close up on the mic? you may be. they can have a pretty massive bass bump/proximity effect...sounds like that may be your situation.
in general, you can't get as close to a SDC as you can to a dynamic as they're more sensitive to that stuff. major popping can happen too.

maybe try backing off the mic and see if you still have the situation going on.

You also didn't say what type of floor you have.

Wood floors move, old wood floors creak and concrete won't move except during earthquakes!

Or your mic stands may be light.... try putting a 10lb barbell on it to steady it down.

(in other words, it may not be the >mic< )

Yes they pop and crap with the slightest wind, as any exposed capsule, but no. This very simple. Tap or bump, they respond. Some mics have heavier cases and/or have some mechanical isolation.
As it turns out I could not hear any added noise on the tracks from the drum kit/kick/floor or what ever with the mk12 right next to the 32 on the same stand and at equal nominal record levels.
It is also possible that weight/mic/AT shock mount is just a poor combo that may happen to like to let 300-400hz' through, but this way above high pass' safety roll off territory..

Post a sample dammit ... so much easier to actually hear what you are talking about

huh...i get what you're talking about now, thanks. if it's handling noise can you beef up the absorption on the AT clips with some foam? i have those clips too...as i remember the foam inside of the clips is minimal.

all i know is i never had a problem and i used those things clipped on toms on a claw mount with a standard clip...the toms which were mounted on kick drums...they juse needed the pad engaged and the lows rolled off.

correctamundo on both! my at clips need to be re-elasticized. i haven't used em in years...

the 012 i used may have been an earlier version...but i'm not sure what the versions are on those or if they differ in anything other than QC.
