Opinions??????I'm getting a new computer for xmas and would like opinions on if you think this will be ok.
I record by myself, therefore only one track at a time ( except stereo drum machine ). My new computer is a Pent 4, 2.66 Ghz, 80 gig hard drive, with a soundblaster Audiogy (sp?) card. software is CEP.
I run everything through a new Yamaha MG 10/2 mixer and into the soundcard, and monitor the soundcard out through a home stereo reciever and sony MDR 7506 and MDR V6 headphones.
I been trying this on my old computer ( P2, 300Mhz ) 192 ram, which sucks cause I cant use any effects on the vocals cause the computer cant handle it.
Another issue is recording a track ( say vocal ) while listening to previous tracks....I cant get enough volume on the vocal to monitor it unless I open the mixer window and turn everthing else down so I can hear what I'm recording, then have to remix for the next track ( say a harmony part ) to hear myself....any ideas or is that just the way you have to do it ?
Anyway, my new computer should kick ass I hope.....
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks, Bubinski......

The weak link there is you sound card.

Try to get the machine without the sound card and get a M-Audio Audiophile card instead

give us the lowdown on that mg mixer.
sone friends just starting out keep on me about it.
preamp quality ?

I've got the MG 12/4, and it's a good little unit. Pres are nice & quiet. Yamaha gear is generally pretty good, and for the price it's excellent value

I didn't see any dedicated nearfield monitors and that could be a weak link. Maybe next Christmas?

To late about the soundcard, as my wife allready bought the computer and has it hidden at work till xmas.....The Yamaha mixer is GREAT.....I had a carvin 16 channel studiomate and got rid of it for the yamaha MG 10/2.....cleaner, also like that it has input clip indicators on the channels and the phantom power.....nearfield monitors,,,,I have a set of those radio shack (don't laugh) minimus 77 or whatever the are called....little cast aluminum 2 way....sound ok...only about 3 feet from my ears as my recording area is built into a corner configuration and my comp monitor is straight ahead in the corner...also use with those my computer speakers ( Boston BA635 ) with a a subwoofer and balence the volume between the 2 sets Prefer the headphones though.
