As a ligit owner of four home studio programs (hs2002, fruity, sonic foundry, acid) I'm frankly tired of hearing people crank about pirating. This is a site for cakewalk users to swap advice; it shouldn't be used as a surreptitious hunting ground for narcs or a soap box for moral grand-standing about software purchasing. If you don't like the fact that someone obtained something illegally, then don't give them advice. If you are a software developer involved with the company(ies) responsible for these products, you have a conflict of interest in even being here (you're bent would be against saying anything negative about your 'bread and butter' which would skew your advice).

Is this a help site, or something else in disguise?
 
Don't know about you, gamma ray, but I hate to hear that somebody uses the software for free ('cause it's stolen) wich I've used a hundreds of dollars to buy, and when they don't get it to work, they come here and complain!

If you steal something, you are on your own! Find it out for yourself!

... or at least don't say that you have stolen it! Saying "I've downloaded a cracked copy of Sonar" is like saying "I'm a bonehead because I admit I've stolen a copy of Sonar".

Software piracy is a hot topic and will only continue to be so long as the cycle of pricing continues... either software will stop being developed or they will lower their prices back to the reality plain to get people to buy it again, either way things are not going well for those who want to pay but can't afford to and those who develop the software and SHOULD get paid but can't sell a copy because it's offered for free and their asking price is too high because too few are buying it because the prices are too high because too few are buying it because the prices are too high

I can't speak for others here, but the posts in which I commented on this topic had to do with the fact that this "Heaven Cent" person asked questions that were either:

A. Already discussed in depth here or at the Cakewalk site.
B. In the manual (most of which can be found even in pirated versions of the software under "Help")
C. In "Sonar Power" for $30.

As I said before, I don't think you have to go too far to find someone with software or music that they didn't pay for, so the Moral High Road thing is not where I'm coming from.
I'm trying to say, "If you're too lazy to click on 'Help' in your free software, or 'Search' on this site, why should I help you out with info I worked long and hard to get? What you are trying to do, that is, create and record original music, takes a lot of effort and perseverence. If you don't want to make even a marginal investment in that respect, stick to video games."

Speaking for myself, If you do a search on my posts you'll find I dispense info quite readily as I really enjoy this site and most people on it. The leaps and bounds by which my projects have grown in the last six months has been significant. This is due largely to info I've gotten here on mics, recording techniques, computer configurations, software, etc. I'd like to think I've helped as much as I've been helped.

This is a site that has members ranging from beginners to accomplished Pros in the Music and Software industries. Scott Garrigus is a member, he wrote the f***ing Sonar Power Book. Ethan Winer hangs here, he writes for major magazines.

I am sure folks here will answer questions for everybody, but to announce to the forum that you stole software is just plain stupid.
 
So let me get this straight....if I think something costs too much it's all right to steal it.
Gee I think everything's overpriced.
I personally take offense at people pirating software because it just makes it more expensive for the honest people.

And lastly if you're so friggin stupid as to announce you pirated you're too stupid to learn the software so you may as well give it up.:mad:
 
You guys should all be using the LATEST Radio Shack mics and mixers to get the best results....!! They really work!

(But if they don't Blue Bear Sound can help you put the life back in your recordings at very reasonable rates....)

PS, My foul mood has nothing to do with my Bruins getting their butts kicked. Go Sens.
 
I develop software for a living. Let's say hypothetically that you made guitars for a living. One day I walk in and snag a few of your axes you worked really hard on, then I leave without paying. In fact I send e-mail to my friends telling them to do the same because it is easy and fun.

Using a pirated copy of software is the exact same thing. So if someone here has the balls to post a message for help with their stolen merchandise, they deserve all the greif they get. Because they are taking food off the table at someone's house, literally.
 
how do we pay the Creator for licensing rights for the DNA used in cloning anyway?
