Is this a Decent Idea? (need to know very soon)

I am thking about going to buy a epi les paul jr, cheap and shitty i know.. but i have some sperzel tuners and a duncan pickup that i want to put into it. is this worth it at all?

I would check to see if you like how the neck feels, how the nut feels, etc...
Make sure that you like the jr. first how it is, and then upgrade it if you think that it's decent. I believe its all subjective, but thats just me.

depending on the tuners on the epi. the tuners might not line up so i personally dont think its worth it, plus even if you have a nice pickup your stuck with shitty wood which is most important for tone and feel

Agreed. Then again, if you can get it for something like 100 bucks, the deal gets alot more atractive.

The tuners will NOT be a direct replacement, so you will need to have the holes reemed out (take to a shop, the tool cost more than getting the work done). Do NOT try and do this with a drill, you will fuck shit up that way.

If you can afford something better then dont do it, unless this is the only thing you can afford and itll be that way for a long time then you'd be better off getting a better guitar, maybe not with the best hardware, but still better than what you're proposing, and still upgradeable to much better later on.

The wood does make a difference, as does the overall build quality, durability and feel (and I dont just mean low action, everything fits better)

If you already have good guitars and money to burn and are looking for a project that doesnt have to turn out, its not a bad idea.

stay clear of it if its a bolt-on ... if its a set neck ... decide on how it "speaks" to you

i would say that its not that great of a deal but you might find a used guitar that is higher quality for the same money and it might be worth putting a little time and money into it then... i play acoustic guitar but when i wanted to go with a solid body i built a Saga guitar kit that rocks hard enough for me! and it was like $130 bucks time i put the good tuners on it... have you checked out some of those cheap LP copies that the guys like so much? i think the brand is Rondo or something like that....

I would look at ESP Les Paul copies or maybe new Schecter's- there's just something about putting any money into an Epi or a Mex strat that just doesn't sit right with me

How long did it take you to put the guitar together start to finish? How hard was it. I've been thinking about buying one as a side project
