Is There Such A Thing As An "Old Style" BRC?

Is there such a thing as an "Old Style" BRC? What I'm getting at is if I see a used one for sale do I have to worry about it not being compatible with the later day 20-bit ADATs?

I suppose they have fiddled a bit with the BRC's firmware over time, but has there been a major revision along the way in the BRC hardware making an earlier-manufactured unit incompatible to any degree with the latest ADAT decks?

As far as I know, the latest BRC software version is 2.04. It is compatible with all Type 1 and 2 ADAT's.

Ah... So it's possible to upgrade firmware in the BRC. OK, well, maybe my bit of paranoia about "older" BRCs that occasionally show up on the used market is ill-founded. I'm interested in buying a used BRC at some point, but was unaware if older BRCs from the "Type 1 era" would be compatible with Type 2 machines.
