I just picked up an M-Audio Delta 44 today. I have it hooked up and am using my mixer as a pre-amp. I have a little Soundcraft Spirit Folio Lite with 4 XLR ins. Each of the XLR tracks have a line out which I connect to the corresponding ins on my Soundcard.

I am under the impression this is set up correctly.

My problem is... if I adjust any of the gain/fader/trim knobs on the mixer, the level recording stays the same, and i cannot find a way to adjust it.

If anyone is familiar with this mixer or could give general help it would be appreciated. Thanks.

not familiar with this particular mixer ... but it sounds like you're using direct outs for each channel. and yes, this is what you should do. these outputs send a signal immediately after the preamp, so the EQ/faders/etc. do not effect what you are recording. you should use your software control panel to adjust levels.

if you were to plug the main outs of the mixer into a couple channels of your soundcard, you would find that the faders/eq do in fact make a difference.

btw ...

when tracking, it's typically more useful to monitor though the board, not your soundcard. then you can take advantage of what you observed: you can throw together a good headphone/monitor mix while not having to worry about still getting a good strong signal recorded.

Thanks for clarifying why none of my controls on my mixer works. I am getting a decent signal to my software, I am just worried it will be too loud. I am going to try and record some drums tomorrow, if it does not work out too well for me, I will post more descriptive problems. Thanks again.
