is there ANY way to hook up my dynamic mic to my audiophile 2496?

i dont want to know about a preamp. or a mixer.

i want to directly put my mic into my soundcard.

is taht possible at all.



ediT: its a shure sm58, and an audiophile 2496.

all the other shit is irrelevant.
 
sorry dude, you NEED a preamp or mixer....

you can plug your mic straight to the soundcard mic-in port, but the result is extremely crappy.

get an Audiobuddy or small behringer for less than $100....

Nope.......... at the very least, you need a mic preamp... no way around it.
 
as your name is rane - try a rane ms1b mic pre sometime.
very favored by a lot of knowledgeable people.
OR if you dont have any dough for the ms1b get a xlr to qtr inch adapter
and plug into a cassette deck mic input which will boost the signal enough to send to line input of the sound card.

Do they still make cassette decks with 1/4 mic inputs???? Haven't seen one of those in a long long time! :eek:

Still that won't sound very good -- you're much better off with a pre.
 
well of course blue bear. but it really depends what quality level one is after.
i agree completely bb. but for someone with no dough who doesnt want high end quality and just wants to lay something down. it works.
eg ; scratchpad song ideas. loads of those old decks around.
people even give them away. depending on the deck actually you can get some pretty clean tracks down as some of those decks mic pre's i understand were based on higher end schematics.
someone of your caliber of course can tell a diff in engineering terms,
but for rough noodling its an ok solution till one can afford a decent pre
like a rane or up from there.

Agreed... I made the comment not to "cross-check" your comment, but rather to help him understand the trade-off by going that route!

some dudes at another site told me i oculd do it directly with just an xlr-1/4 cable and 1/4 -rca adapter

oppps, my bad... I was refering to those soundblaster kinda cards...

no mic-in for AP2496.... I am using this card too! :)
