Hi, I am one of those trying to learn the art of home recording, and my aim is non-commercial. I must say, this site is so rich with ideas and suggestions for people like me. Really thanks to all those taking time to help out.......
My Set up (please don't laugh!) before I invest in something better:
Radio Shack mixer
Yamaha stereo casette deck (consumer type)
PC with SB PCI 128 card, CD burner
Roxio editor
A few mics
Here is my latest experiment in learning:
-Mix multi tracks(3 mics)
-Record on to Yamaha deck with Dolby B, using Tape Out from mixer
-At the same time, take Main Out from mixer to sound card's Line In and record using Creative's Sound Ole tool on PC. I set the properties to CD quality i.e., 44KHz and 16 bit
-Then I played back the song from tape and recorded on to PC using the same sound card.
-Next I edited both songs, one recorded direct to hard disc and other transferred from tape, using Roxio's Sound Editor, with just a little EQ, echo and noise cancellation.
-Burned both songs on to CD
-Played CD on my Sony CD player, connected to Dennon amplifier.
Amazingly, the song transferred from tape to disc sounded much better-smoother, richer and more real. I had expected them to be the same or the one recorded directly to HD to be better.
Any clue as to why, or is my set up so primitive that it is not worth figuring out?
Thanks
