Is there a website for learning about analog recording?

I'm trying to find a website where I can learn about how people recorded music in the 1930s and 1940s.

Also, is there a site where I can learn about the basics and terminology of analog recording? The lingo?

Well, this would be MY favorite "website"...its where I learned a great deal of what I know.

IIRC the 30's and 40's utilized wire, wax and direct to disc recording. I don't think magentic tape recording had come into play yet.

What kind of lingo do you want info on? Might be good if you post up terms you want to know what they mean or just Google them.

Thanks so much for this. This is very close to the info I was asking for :)

and thanks to everyone else for answering. If you have more info that will help, please post.

If you can find it, "Electronic Music: The Instruments, The Music & The Musicians" by Andy McKay has at least a few things to say about historical recording techniques, circa 1935. The book was written in 1981 so even the modern side of things is all-analogue.
