Is there a way to record 3 or 4 tracks in n-track at the same time while keeping them seperate?
I am using an AP2496 card on a Dell.
As you can probably figure out, I am recording drums and want to keep each track seperate.

Also, is there a big difference from 16 bit to 24 bit?
At this time I am recording at 16 because I am still using the sample version. It won't let you record in 24 bit.

To record more tracks simultaneously you'll need a soundcard with more inputs. You might look into the Delta 44, Delta 66, or Delta 1010lt on the cheap side. Also the hoontek cport is quite a value.

I believe that there is a substantial difference in mixing and effects processing at 24bit. A single track may not sound "better" if recorded at 24bit, but you start piling up the tracks and the processing, and the benefits start to appear. The higher bit depth can also improve things like fades and matching edits.

P.S. to record more than two tracks simultaneously, you're going to have to register n-Track anyhow...so get the 24bit version.

I record drums on mine by using two different affordable sound cards. You can enable multiple inputs from both sound cards at the same time in n-track's audio preferences. The only thing you have to do is have four seperate sends from a mixer or other bussing device and pan hard to the right and left. For example, I have an awe64 card and between my right and left channels, I have two track capability when I pan hard right on channel 1 (tracl1) main out and hard left (track2)on channel 2. Add in an Audigy or whatever card of your choice and pan the auxilary send 1 on mixer channel 3(track3)and hard right (track4) on channel4 on auxilary send 2. Confused yet? LOL

Good suggestion, Fritz. There are a few folks on the N board that run 2 and even 3 SB128 cards. Like you said, as long as you have a mixer that sends seperate feeds, it works great.

I use the inserts to feed 8 tracks to my card. Works great.
