is there a big difference between the m audio 192 vs the m audio 2496?

i tried to buy the 2496 but they don't have it at my local store. so they're selling me the 192 for 99 bucks. not sure if i should keep it or return and buy the 2492 for 90...

i also picked up the sm 58
and some cable.

put a big dent in my wallet like 220 bucks total... testing it out right now. this is an upgrade from my crappy AV710 sound card and my PG58

tiny difference if you're using low end equipment...and plus, barely any home recordists record at 192 since it takes up too much storage and cpu power.

one tiny little problem. i'm setting it up with my previous sound card

gonna use the old one for out put, and the m audio 192 for recording

everything is plug in, yet the recording came in really really small. it's no where near the loudness that my old one has. i'm messing around n see what i did wrong. but this is annoying the hell out of me

you know where the volume control for the m-audio 192? can't find it. and no the other one is not intergrated sound cards. it's the AV710

The 192 (as well as the 2496) has no built-in preamp, so you need to buy one to record properly with these cards.
Why are you still using your original card for output?

cuzz i don' got the require cable for my speakers to plug in the 192.... no wonder. no reamp? omg. that sux... no wonder it's dam small when i try to record.

now i got to buy a preamp. any good/cheap ones?

so my dang cheap ass AV710 got a built in preamp but this thing don't?

That's a very loaded question around here!!! If you do a search, you'll find a million and one different opinions on mic pre's, especially low-end ones... the ART Tube MP is about $40, and probably one of the cheapest out there - it'll work, but as with *most* things in recording, you get what you pay for!
I'd be willing to bet though that a Tube MP/192 combo would be a fair bit better that your old Soundblaster type thing, so don't be too discouraged!
On another note, you may want to also invest in some cables to take the 192's outs - get that old card out of the chain all together!!!!

i returned it, i went completely broke on the card + cable + mic.... i'm gonna save up and swing for a preamp + the 2496...

the AV710 isn't bad, it uses the Envy HT-S chip set = the same as the M-audio revolution/2496/192... actually the 192 uses a older chipset, i think it was the Envy HT... a grade lower than the HT-S.

but recording is more relying on the DAC. and ofcouse those recording card has better DAC... but sound out put wise for music, the AV710 gets up there surpasing those soundblaster card.
