Is the whole pro tools 002 worth it?

Ive been used to recording live things, coming onto my computer as one track. This means, if I dont correct something on the mixer before its recorded, its that way forever. How many tracks would I be able to individually work with if I used pro tools? Am I having the right idea, thinking that i will be able to record something with a guitarist and bassist at the same time(live), and have it show up on my computer as 3 seperate tracks? If this is true, how many tracks could I work with?

up to 32 voiceable tracks

what you're asking for is how many many software programs work,....and even hardware devices. Not just Pro Tools. It's called multitracking. Do some research on multitrack software:
