need a starter card for recording. yes, i know the audiophile 2496 is supposed to be great... but this is a bit cheaper because it doesn't have midi. i figure that if i ever need midi i can just add it with a $60 usb midi device, right?

MIA is an excellent card. I had one but a friend ended up with it. I run a Delta 1010 now and think MAudio makes excellent cards too. The MIA has balanced I/O and as high or higher dynamic range than anything in it's price range. You can't go wrong with a MIA, but you can't go wrong with a MAudio 2496.

SOS reviews this card in the August issue.

Don't know anything about the company though.

I've never used one, but I think I would take an m-audio product before a Mia.
I would take an Echo product before an M-Audio product.

I would recommend the M-Audio product if one could not afford or did not need the better quality / features of the Echo equivalent.

I agree, the Mia has better specs than the Audiophile, and better support.

Excellent product; I've used one for 1.5 years now with great success.

BUT be sure to check on Echo's website to make sure your motherboard/chipset is compatible (excellent advice for ANY soundcard purchase.....)
