i had a real weird , probly more realisticaly , technical problem today with my DAW .. I was happily starting a new song , i laid down the guide track (just guit.) and everything was great , until playback .. At the start of the track was about three secs of a vocal take i had done weeks before, in fact i had just deleted the entire file of soundfiles of this particular song , yet this vocal track found its way back ...any ideas anyone?? the pc is used solely for recording running win98 (not se) , logic platinum (old platinum) , 7200 20gb hard drive , its a p3 450 and has 256mb ram...any ideas anyone ??
cheers

by the way , i tried to get it to do it again , not a chance ... seems to be a one off (i hope!!!)

Sounds like you didn't really delete the file in question, but accidentally loaded the file with the vocals and then recorded over most of it. Do you know the actual sizes of the two files involved? I'm betting that the new track was a bit shorter than the old one. I dunno about Logic Audio, but Vegas always writes to a temp file if you don't specify a name in advance.

logic wont let u record unless you specify a place to put your files .. Something i was wondering about , i know it pre allocates space on the drive to record to .. maybe it somehow overlooked the fact a bit of this file was left ... weird ,,,,
its not two separate files though , just right at the beginning of the file i recorded is this three second section then it goes straight into the start of my new file... I didnt defrag after getting rid of these files so maybe that had something to do with it ..anyway cheers doc..
