I know that *HighEnd* is just a label, but I guess it´s time for me to spend some money on equipment to keep learning and having fun...

I know that if I buy an 3124+ it will be a lifetime purchase... I mean, it´s hard to find a reason to sell your API gear; but right now I don´t have that kind of money, and I was wondering about SC stuff...

I read a lot of threads about it (and even listened a couple of samples), but I would like to hear SC equipment owners... Pros? Cons? Can you use them side by side with classic high end stuff (API, Chandler, Vintech, etc.)? Comments?

Any input is welcome!
Thanks! :D

High-end... Maybe
Step up... Certainly
Long Term Investment... Definetely

If you don't mind putting stuff together and can solder, read schematics etc., then I'd recommend the SCA stuff. If you build 4 A12's with everything, it will be $7-800 less than the 3124+. I've got one channel of A12, and find it phenomenal on everything an API pre is supposed to sound good on.

What's really cool, is you can have a couple API, Neve, and John Hardy type channels all in a double rackspace unit (I've got one each). When you figure up getting two of each of those, the price is much higher than what your going to pay for the SCA stuff. The components are going to be basically what you'd find in the real thing.

So if you like to DIY, this is a cool way to go.

not to bag on the SCA stuff, because i think it's pretty sweet that they offer their DYI kits, and will probably end up with a few channels 1 of these days...but i just totalled up the amount for 4 channels of A12 along with the chassis/PSU, and with shipping included, it came to $1669.49.

that being said, i've seen 3124+'s sell for $1800-1900 used. i know some folks would like to save as much as possible, but i know some people would also prefer to spend the extra couple hundred, and not only have the real-deal API, but also save the headache/time involved in assembling everything.

What's funny is you can go sell your SCA on Ebay for more than what you paid for it.

For used API, they are close. But, I know I couldn't get the combination I have for anything close to what SCA allowed me to do.

that's because will a lot of folks will dish out the cash for the assembled product...and i didn't mention it in the last post, but if you buy 4 pre-assembled A12's, you're paying about as much as you would for a new 3124

of course you can't add another 4 channels of something else to it either...

Guys, do you have any recent sample of SC stuff to share? :)

yeah, that's another big part of the value, you've got 4 more channels to dilute the cost of the PSU/rack.

i love mine (2 N72's 2 A12'S 2 C84's) but can't speak to how they compare to the designs they're clones of....

one other note, i think there's a guy that assembles the units for quite a bit cheaper than tim does, don't have first hand experience but have heard he does a good job. i think maybe he sells the assembled units on ebay or something.

i'd say go for it. can't imagine that you'd regret it.
