Sorry, y'all were on a roll and I just had to know your opinions. :D

In my opinion

Come on MM&H.He's classified as a rapper.jus got a melody flow about himself.
This question is like asking when bone-thugs-n-harmony 1st came out are they rappers. There rappers with a different style about their delivery....A rapper not just consists of his lyrics. Its his overall demeanor. What he wears. How he talk. How he live.I'm pretty sure you wouldn't see marilyn manson dressign down in a fitted hat, sagging pants, and hella jewelry etc. When you hear him speak you who his fans are. With the exception of a constantly changing industry though.Anything is possible.See how rockers like limp bizkit and papa roach criss-cross hip-hop and rock,Its kool wit me though..
Just to answer the question...Nelly is a rapper (A wack one at that). But he came with a new style so his wack ass is selling as of now....

I know, I know:( it just annoys me, he's more like a singer to me but he's still a rapper.

Matter of fact, when he first came out, I used to say he must be the retarted bone thug. At least they exhibited skill (in my opinion)

lol......I can relate:D

i dont see why everyone is hattin'. he is a rapper with a different style and different flow.just cause you dont like it dont mean it aint tight.i represent the slow but i like all styles of rap from west coast, down south, east coast, whateva. if it will make you nod ya head, i dont care where he from

just my 2 cents,

holla

Like him...Don't like him....Don't really matter...he's sold more records then everyone on this board combined ever will...period end of story...................So he must be doing something right

Man It's a trip

Man it's a trip how people hate on Nelly.

Come on now, negros always talking about how white people do this and how white people do that. How blacks are held down. How blacks don't get to do this and that.

Man it wasn't like Nelly and dem signed a deal from some Source UNSIGNED campaign......cause we all know only east coast cats make it....but that's another chapter..... Them fools sold hella cd's independently. Then Nelly came out with his solo joint, sold even more albums. Plus, he brought his whole crew up and helped them sell hellafied albums. Black and independent hustling before he made the big time. You can't deny him that. He helps alot of other people out too. Really he should be an inspiration to alot of fellas on this board.

Off Top, them fools make good music. Just because they aint rapping about bangin' & slangin' dudes wanna hate. Them fools make music to get you on your feet and dance. What would you rather do:

A. Be Grinding on some Phat Hoes...Phat Azz in the club...getting Sloshed off Henn & Coke

or

B. Smash the block, getting harassed by cops, and worrying about beef with a fella that might get you popped

I take Nelly's side to the fullest cause he represent where he from. He put St. Louis on the spot. (I've been rapping in maryland for almost 2 years, and I was working with some cats from there that neva represented where they was from......and when starting off you gotta take that hometown favoritism for what it's worth....and it's worth alot). I'm from Texas and my producer is from St. Louis so he told me all about them, I heard them before they blew up. Them fools worked hard, but it would be a hellafied lazy azz negro that will say "Nelly Lame, he can't flow, man he a sanger...yada...yada...yada."

I don't think it's such a big problem in the south, cause alot of people from the south dig his style, but I know a rack of east coast dudes that be hatin. Not getting into a dirty south/east coast war or nutting, but I'm like in the same position. I'm in maryland doing my thang and alot of people(a rack of brizzoads) be feeling me and my peoples music. But then you got the haters talking about I aint got flow....oh "That dude Tyler can't flow, he's from down south, he aint got no tight lyrics".......I guess cause I don't be on no philisophical sh*t, they don't feel it.......hell if yall wanted that, yall could read the bible or goto school/library.....which a rack of negros dropout.....but that's another chapter too.....

All i'm saying is, if that sh*t beating ya back out and making you bob ya nugget, f*ck it , ride to it. Respect It or Check It, and I don't think anyone on this board will be able to Check over 10 million combined sales from Nelly and The St. Lunatics, anytime soon.

Imma just put it like this,

I respect him cis he is a black man getting money, but I do not respect his music!!!!!

And he is a singer, name one song where he doesn't sing(going by the textbook definition of singing).

That aint even hiphop. Name one corner or block in America where a cat can just jump into a cypher where cats is freestylin and start doin that nelly sh*t, without gettin snuffed(punched dead in his f*ckin face) and then stomped out.

.

C'mon flossy boy, you act like I don't represent the dirty south to the fullest when I spit. Just cause I don't have a southern accent don't mean I can't spit for the south. Just cause I don't like Nelly's music don't mean I don't like him and what he's accomplished, I'd rather listen to gangsa/thug shit, or I don't like southern music. I peeped your music and I was feelin it for real, still bobbin my head to that shit.

Nelly is a rapper. Just got a sing-songy style. I don't buy his shit, but in the clubs, I hit the floor just like everybody else when his shit is on cuz it's good at what it is, clubby shit. I wouldn't insult a vocalist by calling him a singer.

Naw dawg, I wasn't saying you don't represent the south. I just came at your question from a side angle. Cause I aint neva heard of so many people hate on a rapper in a long minute. All the talk of not being "hip hop"

I guess we need another post for "What is Hip Hop?"

Cause if you think about it, this sh*t is like the theory of evolution in my opinon. When "generation 1" hip hop first came out, it was corny compared to what "generation x" hip hop is. Back in the day, there wasn't no gangsta sh*t, no thug azz sh*t, it was straight house party sh*t......hence House Party 1 and 2(movies).

Seems like people forget the "roots" and have come up with sub-definitions of hip hop....that's gangsta....that's thugged out......that's pop......that's dirty.....yada yada yada
