Hi,

i have copied a message i sent to an ebay user who posted a very useful guide on ebay, aimed toward spotting fake Shure microphones.

i havent had a response from the user so thought i'd try my luck here, see if anyone is experienced in spotting the fakies!

i have copied the message as i'm feeling too lazy too write it out again:) hope you don't mind, thanks!

Hi there,

I just read your very helpful guide on spotting fake Shure mics
Could you very kindly have a look at the attached zip file containing pictures of my recently purchased Shure beta87a microphone?
I had no suspicions about the microphone as it sounds great to me (but that said i have no other Shure beta mics to compare it too) concerns occoured when, the other day i removed the XLR cable from the mic and the XLR pin attachment came out from the inside the mic itself. it had been left it connected for a couple of days straight prior to this however.

The seller seems legit with no suspicions: eBay My World - swingsounds

The mediafire link bellow contains the zip file with the pictures of the microphone in question.

beta87a.zip

would really appreciate your help here, thankyou!

Laurence

Apparently some of the giveaway signs are silver xlr pins instead of gold, sloppy soldering with out heatshrinking at the xlr pins, and even sometimes using a dynamic capsule!

Does yours have silver pins or work without phantom power?

If you have accurate scales you could check the weight against the manufacturers spec too.

It looks fine but the safest way to be certain is to contact shure. Is the an authorised seller near you?
