im currently recording with an mbox with protools le on my g4 powerbook. i get by with the 512 for memory, im wondering if i upgraded to a gig if i'd be able to run the digi 002 with no problems. if not, what other suggestions for an interface without getting a new computer.

Laptops are just plain difficult with recording. RAM upgrade is an absolute must. I'm surprised you can run on 512. Your hd spindel speed is also a concern, 5200 rpm usually doesn't cut it. Can't upgrade the cpu, wont' comment on that.... Thats about all I can comment on actually. Whats your other specs? Gotta find out if its worth upgrading.

Yeah you need to upgrade your memory. That's the main upgrade you should be considering. Other then that, your system should run decent enough. Any mac processor (before todays' newer processors) are faster then their PC counter parts by far, utilizing bigger and badder pipelines & work/per/cycle. If your not doing major tracking & using a whole lot of plug-in's you should be straight.

you know, i'd have to disagree with you on this point. i run a 512mb 1.6gig Intel Centrino with a mBox 2 and PT 7.1. i can run up to about 28 tracks, all with pretty much 1 or more plug-ins, and it works fine. some of them are fairly heavy plugs, Waves, Sonalksis etc plugs and it still runs fine.

so what gives?

I'd say at least a gig of memory, it's not expensive, it can't hurt, it's better than paging to disk.
