Is M-box for PT only, or any SW

I saw an M-Box for $150 at a consignment shop during lunch, and thought about getting it for a friend of mine. First, is M-Box usable by any SW (like Samplitude), or is it PT specific? Anyone know how it compares to the Tascam 122, which I hear is pretty good?

I can't say how it compares, but you can use it with other programs besides PT.
