Is it worth it to buy the spirit fx16 instead of the A&H mixwzrd 16;2 so I can have subs? I want to use them for compression. I think I could make an aux send work, but I would be harder, and doesnt seem like it would sound as good. I guess what I'm trying to say is, is it worth it sacrificing pre quality for this feature. Blue bear?
 
I can't speak for the spirit but the A&H 16:2 is a very quiet board.

You can "sort of" make up for the subs out with the aux sends but that's messy. I don't like to see that much blood on my console.
 
Yeah, that was sorta my feeling too, but I wanna find out about the spirit. I really like the EQ on the heath too.
 
Stick with the A&H, you wont be sorry. I dont know how you plan on setting things up, but each channel has a balanced out, so I just run those straight into my delta.
 
Well, the route I want the signal to follow, is through the mixer(probably the A&H due to the better EQ and pres than the spirit), though and onboard pre or sometimes an outboard, and then direct out to 2 delta1010's. Then, after recording the pure signal, and optimizing that, pitch correction, timing, and thigs of that sort, then run it back through the board and add compression and reverb things like that. I'm not sure if that's the way to do it, but I want to be able to work with real faders and knobs, not just the computer. Also, I may use this for live recordings at times, with 16 channels recording at once, and then remix afterwards. Please correct me if this technique is incorrect.

Thast it. Get 16 trs to trs cables to run out of the 16 trs outs on the back of the A&H to the trs ins on the deltas.
 
The Spirit M series is known for pretty good pre's and EQ in that price range. I'm not sure how they are setup for busses though. Just wanted to point it out if you haven't looked at them.
 
Isn't there a variation of the mix wizard with 4 sub-groups? There are a number of varieties - I saw one recently being used for live sound with built in digital effects, and a midi input to control them!

I could very easily be wrong though...
 
It sacrifices mono channels and direct outs in order to accomplish that
