i've been having a hard time trying to decide which soundcard i should get. i don't need much, just need to be able to record 1 maybe 2 tracks at a time. i'm recording with soundblaster extigy, acid 4.0 and a b-1 berhinger mic but am planning to upgrade to cubase se and maybe a AT3035 for recording rap and r-n-b vocals. but first i want to get a soundcard to get me started. i was looking into the ap2496 and the ap192. heard both are great. i was really considering to go with the ap2496 cause of the price. but then i read about the ap192 and i'm stuck. i've also considered emu 1212m. but is it worth the extra money to go with recording capabilities of 192kHz? i just want to make good enough LPs and EPs and to be possibly on the radio. i want to be able to purchase a soundcard soon as possible so i would love any opinions. acutally, i have 250 bucks and the 2496 and cubase se are 100 bucks each one, should i go with that and add the extra 50 towards savings or buy the microphone, 1212m or the 192 first or what would you think would be better? thanks for your help

Why not get an EMU 0404? I believe they are going to enable 192kHz on it in a driver revision that's coming this year. And it's the same hardware as the 1212, but less ins and outs.

Get a soundblaster. They Rock!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !

xrap. i would suggest you go with the proven audiophile due to the drivers.
also check out powertracks that i use for multitracking at pgmusic.com.
if you dont believe me - just talk to many users on the pg forums who use the audiophile and powertracks with great success. plus it has many new interesting features. for example createing vocal harmonies. and a slew of
built in plug ins - thus saving you buying plug ins. one other benefit is the support. its on line - so you can talk to support people during the day which ive found usefull at times.peace.

xrap. the 2496 is proven. so - would go with THAT as so many people are happy with it. i tend to stay away from very new sound cards because often the drivers need some settling in time/revisions. peace.
ps...i'm a computer engr...and i would suggest you have a pretty decent pc with 512 ram and fast hard drives.

manning1 you've been back here just a couple days now and already you have hijacked threads and have almost 10 posts for powertracks. Are you going to keep advertising that crap and pgmusic until you piss off people again? If you are here to help people why don't you limit yourself to that or at least stop hijacking threads to sell your software? It's been peaceful here without you so why start the crap again?

xrap03 I'd go with the emu 1212m or the 0404. I don't have one but from what I read here at these forums I understand it has better converters than the audiofile.

Because it's spam. He does it on every board he's on. He obviously does not give a crap about the concensus of this or any other board - he's only interested in pimping his crappy little application.

Since you already are inclined towards getting Cubase SE, you might want to take a look at the PreSonus Firebox, it has 2 mic/inst inputs on the front and 2 line level inputs on the back, so you'll have the ability to do 4 tracks at once if you ever need to, it also has 2 spdif I/O if you ever need that, and comes with Cubase LE, while it's a little more pricey than the Audiophile, it comes with a good starter software package and is a little more capable than the AP right out of the box, plus you won't need to buy a seperate preamp right away either.

Being firewire, it could also be used with a laptop.

The same can be said for the Emu packages. I have the 1820m which provides all the above I/O and Cubase VST.

xrap. you have two choices. either to believe what i tell you about powertracks being superb or not. if you want proof that what i'm telling you is the truth just talk to other users on the the powertracks forum at pgmusic.com.and try the demo, and decide for yourself.
thats all i have to say on the matter.

He asked about soundcard options, you friggin moron. Go peddle your crap application elsewhere.

I just installed the 24/96 and it seems to be running nicely right out of the box!
