I have a couple of older recordings of a live band, done well before I got any real gear, and way before I learned anything about tracking and mixing at this web site. I think I already know the answer to this question, but I'll ask anyway:
I recorded the live band with one microphone set in the middle of the band into a 4 track minidisk recorder. Things are obviously less than clean, and I'm just wondering if there are any general techniques that someone would use to try and clean up the recordings? My guess is that they're screwed, and the only way to really get a better recording out of it, is to do it again. (That's no longer an option, as the band has since broken up.) I'm just wanting to see if I can get anything out of it.
Like I said, with one mic, there's nothing for me to balance, really, or bring up front, or push to the back, so I think I'm screwed. Is that a good assesment of my situation, or is there some way to clean up audio like this?
Thanks,
-Speedy
