Do I need to invest in both? I already have a pedal thats main purpose is to change the impendance from high to low to give you a better smoother sound. Could I use as a pre for teh mic or guitar and get a preamp for the other,

Or is it better to get a preamp for guitar and mic?

lets say my budget is $1000 for both pres.

In your honest opinions, what do you think???

At 1k get the Great river MP1NV. it will be good for both. Perhaps the best option for recording.

Hell, for $1000, you could buy an RNP, a POD, and an SM-57. Then you could go direct through the POD, or mic your amp into the RNP, and have plenty of options.-Richie

A dgstomp or a tech21 product will give you far better results than a pod, The rnp is a good suggestion. with the money you save, get a 57 and a sp b1
