Is it a floor wax or a dessert topping or both? Mic Pre/DI question.

A good defined bass sound is a priority of mine and I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Demeter tube DI box.
I'm also in the market for a good mic pre for vocals, maybe acoustic guitar.

Should I spring for the Demeter and a grand-per-channel pre (suggestions on that please) or is there a box out there that will give me both?

I have some bass player friends who speak highly about the Demeter DI. Another option would be the Groove Tubes Ditto or Groove Tubes Brick.

Well, no... it's not all that simple a question. There isn't a whole lot of shortage of mic-pre/DI's... but they all sound a bit different. In the $1k range, the Great River ME-1NV is probably my favorite... but that's probably because it was designed to my tastes...

In other events... I have to disagree with you on the 'Grady must go' thing... yeah, he made a couple of bonehead moves... but he's only in his second year with the Sox... and from what I hear from the players he's a great boss... look how far they made it [would you feel any better if they had beaten the Yankees and lost to the fucking Marlins? I doubt it].

Between the Pats logo and the 'Grady' comment it seems like you're a local... we're down in Foxboro [if I'm mistaken, it's good to see the 'fellowship of the miserable' is in other parts of the country as well].

Fletcher,
That's me (Chuck) on your voicemail this past Saturday morning. We can debate Grady when you call back ;)

Seriously, thanks for your reply. Hopefully we'll talk soon. I think I'm making pretty good recordings with my gear and my experience (which is admittedly modest and probably my biggest limitation), but I think I'm ready to step up (or at least get some education).

Foxboro is about 90 min south for me. Proud member of Red Sox and Patriot Nation.
