Is delta 1010lt good choice for use w/ sonar 3 studio?

I will be using the software editor sonar 3 and i need a good choice of soundcard for abou 300 or less dollars. I will be recording drums and everything so i will need a lot of inputs. I also have a dmp3 preamp so i dont need built in ones. Can you use the rca inputs on the 1010 to carry a mic signal or guitar/bass signal? PLEASE HELP!

You do realize that you need a pre-amp for every mic you feed to the Delta, right?

If you are recording 8 channels simultaneously, you'll need 8 pre-amps (unless some of the feeds are already a line level signal). I believe the 1010LT has a couple of pre-amps built-in.
 
really i thought you could use 1 preamp for several mics? yes the lt does have 2 line inputs with preamps but i heard that they are poor. Also my ub-2222 (behringer) has preamps but they are not top quality. How much are say 6 channel preamps and can you use preamps for guitar as well as vocals?<br> One last thing is.... how do i convert a mic signal to a line level signal to hook up to the rca inputs and what type of cordage to i need because standard xlr inputs only fit into 2 of the 8 analog inputs on the 1010lt.
 
Run the mics into your mixer, then just get 1/4" to rca convertor jacks to get the mixer output into the soundcard
 
would i need an 8 track pre like the behringer ada8000 if i was using the mixer?
 
Just to answer your initial question, the 1010 is a very good soundcard. Nothing fancy, but good convertors for the money, and a really easy soundcard to use. The software mixer that the delta cards come with work well.
But you will need preamp for each channel or a mixer.

If your mixer has pres you should be able to use those on the 6 inputs of the 1010 that don't have pres
 
so basically what you are saying is dont buy a preamp if my mixer has them already? Just fyi i dont already own the ub-2222 i am "planning" on buying it. So say i have enough mixer preamps for drums would a nicer less channel preamp greatly improve my sound quality on vocals?
 
Just use your dmp3 for vocals.
Also make sure the mixer you get is capable of at least 6 output. If you haven't got one yet, check out the Yamaha MG12/4 for $200. They got pretty good pres
 
Just to clarify, the mixer needs to have Direct Outs (or Channel Inserts) for each channel in order to record them individually.

Most likely some do, and some don't. Check the specs for the one(s) you are interested in.
 
The Yamaha MG series doesn't have direct outs, but it has inserts which do the same thing. The MG12/4 gives you 4 outs via the Main and Group outputs, another couple through the Aux outs, and 4 - 6 more through the inserts
 
do all of those give you preamps which bring it to a "line level signal" so i can input it in the rca jacks of the delta 1010lt?
 
The MG12/4 has 6 preamps, whicj is all you need for the 1010lt. Not sure about the Behri mixer
