cool-ed., vegas, cubase, sonar, logic, n-track... i don't need alot of midi or a real complicated program and want to be able to program drums . need at least 16 total tracks and good effects.

I hate cubase, its the best looking but crapiest to use. And I havn't used sonar, logic, n-track. Vegas would work for you but I would wait for cooledit pro 2 which comes out soon. Ver 2 has midi but not sure if it will program drums. Fruity loops is great for drum programing and maybe you should go for vegas till we know more about cooledit 2.

do they offer a free upgrade to version 2, cause I JUST got version 1(.2?)

whatever you do...DONT get cakewalk pro audio9.
I have that too and it SUCKS. Its LOADED with midi stuff if thats what your into, but the digital audio was added as though it was a plugin.

oh yeah...

I LOVE cool edit. Its almost too easy to use and is loaded with more features and effects than youll ever need.
It also has somthing like 64 tracks, so youll always have plenty/.

Actually 128 tracks if you consider that there stereo tracks.

program drums

so with cool is there any drum plug ins or do you need fruity loops what would i use to program a beat and then add instruments after then be able to edit the beat a bit if needed?

Ok I use real drums now but when I used fruity loops I would export the individual track out of fruity loops so that I could still mix them in cool edit. And because each track was the same length I could just select them all in cooledit , rightclick and hit duplicate and type in say 7, which would give me 8 loops of drums (including the original). So its good fro looping drum samples (wav files) but you will need fruity loops or something else for the creation of the beat samples.

CEP has NO MIDI recording if that is a requirement for you.
