For PC users, it very well could be, it being a PC only program. But, programs like Traktion, Cubase, and ProTools (though only with the Digi hardware) are cross-platform (meaning both PC and Mac). Then you've got Logic, Digital Performer, and GarageBand that are all Mac only.
I personally use cakewalk sonar and find it is an extremely powerful program. What you have to remember is that the software is really not going to influnce the sound. It will be the mics, preamps, interface/converters, your technique, and MOST IMPORTANTLY----THE PERFORMANCE!!! that will have the effect on the overall sound of the end product.
With software, you just need to try a bunch of demos of various products, find the one that seems to click with you, then make a decision based on your trials, purchase the software and never look at another DAW software again, except for upgrades within the same line of course. All 'major' daw software like all the ones mentioned above will get the exact same job done, you just have to figure out which one will make it easier for YOU to do the job.
