Hi,
I've got a MOTU 2408, 20bit box. Would an upgrade to a 2408MKII (24bit) be worth the money for the improved sound quality? I cuurently use the mic pres on my Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro. Vox mic is a Behringer B2 Pro, and Shure 57, Yamaha Mics on the kit. CEP 2.0 and Sonar.
Thanks-
Scott.

Well, 20-bit is already an improvement over 16, but if you've got the cash to spare I say yes. That will give you even more headroom.

Wouldn't the question be is the MKII' in fact a notable step up? It may be, but for other improvements in general?

Good question mixsit. Any insights? - I say MOTU stuff because I already have the PCI-324 and on eBay the MKII can be found for under $300.

id like to hear why not too..

i would take the step up. sell the old one.

if the industry changes again and we all start getting 24/xxxKhz converters in our Cardecks and Ipods I think the sound will be much improved.

when all the playback systems are still lagging behind with 16/44.1 or worse, I don't know if you can tell.

I can't hear a big difference on my system. I have 24 or 16, 44.1K or 48,96,192....

The osciliiscopes can tell so I don't doubt the science has improved.

think ear-wax.
