Is an SR 16 good for heavy metal type sounds

I'm looking at a used SR16 for $100 (good deal?). I've read a few reviews complaining that it's not good for modern techno sounds - not really a prob for me. But all the reviews are referring to jazzy sounds...and I'm not sure what that sound is. I'll want some big room heavy metal style kit sounds - will it do this?

I'll be using it for home practice/fun/writing. I doubt I will ever have to use it live or in a studio while cutting my first #1 single (LMAO).

I've only skimmed the manual and it refered to something about not being able to get to all the sounds without midi. I don't currently do any midi stuff so I don't know much about it. Will the midi programs that come free in most new computers handle these other options?
 
Yeah, It should be good for the sounds you want.... Even if the sounds aren't "Huge" enough for metal, you can still layer them, add eq and reverb to customize them..

I say... Buy it!

$100... good deal too...
 
thanks man...I was hoping for a quick response. So now I'm off to the store. It should be good enough. I'll try to talk them into a one day return policy since it's used anyway.

I never thought I would see anything Alesis for $100 that works.

While you're at the store, check out the Boss 770 drum boxes. I have an old SR16 which is at rest. The 770 has better patches and more features but, unfortunately, costs more.

SR16 is all right but is older technology. But, either box can be programmed if you don't want to use the standard patches.
