Is Adobe Audition worth $299?

I'm looking for multitracking software but it seems that Adobe Audtion (Cool Edit Pro) is rather spendy. I've tried the demo, and it seems pretty functional and useful. Is it worth it? Are there better options?

Thanks.

It's worth it.

All of the major softwares do pretty much everything you'd expect them to do. This or that software has this or that feature that the others don't, and this or that software lacks this or that feature that the others have. The reason Adobe bought out Syntrillium's Cool Edit was because it was good software.

What Audition doesn't do: it doesn't do ASIO, and it doesn't record in MIDI.

AND IT DOESN'T HAVE A MONO BUTTON!

Is it worth it?

Depends what you want to do with it. If you're serious about recording then yes. If you just record a voiceover or a guitar and singer then probably yes again but maybe overkill.

For the price it kills other software for the same price or same features.

I've seen on eBay unopened / unregistered copies of Adobe Audion 1.0 for less than $99.00. This is how I got my first copy and then I bought the upgrade for $69.00.

So I can't say for me that A.A 1.5 is worth $299.99. I can say it's worth every penny of the $169.00 I paid.
