Is a THD hotplate nessasary for a Mesa Dual Rectifier 3 channel Head

Is a THD hotplate nessasary for a Mesa Dual Rectifier 3 channel Head? I read the reviews on the hotplate and got hooked into thinking this would solve my volume/tone woes,

but now im hearing that it wont do anything for the mesa Im getting,

is this true, if so then what do I do for my situation to be able to turn the amp up running evrything hotter getting that hotter tone but at the same time keeping my eardrums and bandmates happy?


HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the Hotplate? A false load? An attenuator?
Why in the world do you need to put something in the path to muck up your pristine sound? If you wanna crank it and dont want the volume, try it on rectifier mode and on sponge... lowers the volume some and gives it a more tubey, elastic feel....
I personally think a Rec sounds just fine at low volumes and to be honest, I hate the way compressed power tubes sound.
Ever used a 50 watt tube amp in a live jam situation, how you keep turning up and it keeps compressing and staying the same? Hate it.
Rec sounds plain good at any volume, no need to have to crank it as far as I can tell. I bought the 150 watt version just so it WOULDNT compress when I cranked it.

I hope your right cuz that would be great news if i didnt have to buy some more junk that I dont have money for. Im just hella into tone and heard that this would do wonders. then I read reviews on it and got hooked,

I totally agree with you.

I too bought the triple for that exact reason...plus it only cost me $200 (CAN) more for it. Tube replacement will hurt alittle more, but whatever. I've used 50 watt Marshalls and Hiwatts too long to suffer any longer with compressed low end.

I agree with your recommendation to use 'spongy' and the 5U4 rectifiers to get that tube tone. It seems to work great even at low volumes.

Don't screw up your great Boogie tone with unecessary gadgets.
