iPad Apps to Turn a toy into a Tool

As the title suggests I want app's

I just bought an iPad and am getting apple credit today,

Need some good apps to do stuff with, I'm getting garageband today but would like,

Some Scoring App,
Some Sample hunting app,
Some Toys I haven't even thought of,
Some Wave editor,

You get the gist

Also, rather than starting a second thread,

Is there anyway I can use an external mic without buying some apple connector? I noticed its trrs could I just use the top ring to connect a mic? I can be handy with a soldering iron if I need too or is there a better option (ie XLR - Apple port)

I am not sure if such app exists. I will look it up since all I can do right now is be home while Ritz Plumbing fixes the earthquake valves here in bel air.
